Reagan išče podporo za svojo politiko tudi pri katoličanih
HARTFORD, Conn. — Predsednik Ronald Reagan se je udeležil zborovanja vodilnih članov Kolumbovih vitezov, ki praznujejo letos stoletnico svojega obstoja. Na zborovanju v Hartfordu je bilo zbranih več kot 8,000 članov te katoliške bratske organizacije, med njimi je bilo tudi o-koli 150 kardinalov, nadškofov in škofov.
V svojem govoru je predsednik Reagan ponovno izrabil svojo podporo za davčne ugodnosti za družine, ki pošiljajo svoje otroke v farne in druge privatne šole. Prav tako je Reagan ponovil svoje odločno nasprotovanje splavu in dejal, da zvezna vlada ne bi smela plačevati stroškov s tem v zvezi za tiste ženske, ki prejemajo javno oz. socialno podporo.
Reagan je bil nagrajen s toplim aplavzom tudi, ko je zahteval ostrejše zakone zoper zločince ter zoper opolzkost. Nadalje je predsednik Podprl dopolnilo ameriški u-stavi, ki bi dovolilo molitev v javnih šolah.
Ko je pa Reagan govoril o Zunanji politiki, je natelel na dokaj hladnejši sprejem. Po-zval je svoje poslušalce, naj P.e podpirajo gibanja, katerega cilj je zamrznitev izdelovanja jedrskega orožja. Zamrznitev naj bi spoštovali oho velesili, ZDA in ZSSR.
To gibanje se je zadnje me-Sece močno razširilo v ZDA m tudi v zahodni Evropi, Podpira ga tudi precejšen del ameriških katoliških škofov. 2nano je namreč, da gibanje Podpira do 100 teh škofov in da bodo morda ameriški škof-3e objavili pastoralno pismo lotos jeseni, ki bo gibanje
Podprlo.

^ W A S H I NGTON, D.C.— f roko svojega veleposlaništva v tem mestu je nikarag-Ve-ška sandinistična vlada iz-lavila, da privatne dobrodel-116 ustanove v Nikaragvi ne srnejo prejeti pomoči v zne-s> 5,1 milijona dolarjev od z^DA. Ta denar bi bil upo-labljen za spodkopavanje sta-mlnosti Nikaragve, je bilo re-CeUo v izjavi, ki jo je objavilo veleposlaništvo Nikarag-Ve v ZDA.
Nikaragvejci trdijo, da željo ZDA strmoglaviti sandi-dlstično vlado in da uporabil aj o v ta namen tudi na videz d o b r o d elne ustanove, rned katerimi jih je mnogo, 1;1 so povezane s katoliško Cerkvijo.
Znano je, da Reaganova mlnrinistracija nasprotuje novi nikaragveški vladi in vidi y u jej možnost nove Kube na južnoameriški celini. Dejstvo le tudi, da so aktivna v Nika-ragvi in sosednjih državah gibanja, katerih cilj je strmoglaviti marksistično usmerjeno sandinistično vlado. Nekatera teh gibanj so tudi o-borožena.

Dorothy Schlarb
V sredo, 4. avgusta, je v University bolnišnici umrla 67 let stara Dorothy Schlarb z 1964 E. 221 St. v Euclidu, rojena Močnik na 6108 Glass Ave. v Clevelandu, žena Wil-liama, mati Patricie (Mrs. John) Latkowski, 2-krat stara mati, sestra Stanleyja Martina (pok.), hčerka Johna in Josephine, roj. Koprivec, Močnik (oba že pok.), pastorka Alice Močnik (preje Čopič), teta. Rajnka je bila med ustanovnimi člani Dra-matskega društva Ivan Cankar ter je obiskovala prvo slovensko šolo v Slovenskem narodnem domu na St. Clair Ave., njeni starši pa so bili med ustanovitelji tega doma in zelo aktivni na društvenem in narodnem polju. Njen oče je bil krojač in imel trgovino na E. 61 St. in St. Ciair Ave., potem na E. 185. cesti. Rajnka je bila članica SNPJ št. 576, PSA št. 7 in Ženskega odseka Euclid Elks kluba. Pogreb bo iz Želeto-vega pogrebnega zavoda na E. 152 St. jutri, v soboto, ob 10.30 dopoldne na pokopališče Western Reserve Memorial Gardens v Chesterlandu, O. Na mrtvaškem odru bo danes, v petek, od 2. do 4. popoldne in od 7. do 9. zvečer. Darovi Slovenskemu domu za ostarele na Neff Rd. ali gradbenemu skladu cerkve sv. Noela na Willoughby Hillsu v pokojničin spomin bodo s hvaležnostjo sprejeti.
Augusta Kosich
Na svojem domu na 15425 Waterloo Rd. je na posledicah srčne kapi nenadno umrla 81 let stara Augusta Kosich, rojena Jež v vasi Trnovo pri Goričah, Slovensko Primorje, od koder je prišla V ZDA skupaj z možem in sinom 1. 1925, vdova po leta 1956 umrlem možu Franku, mati Franka ml., stara mati Melanie (Boston, Mass.) in Deborah (Denver, Colo.), tašča June, sestra Olge Kogej (Bouligny-Meuse, Fr.), polsestra Ane Trojer (Ajdovščina, Slov.) in Lia Pillizzoni (Toronto, Ont.). Leta 1926, kmalu po prihodu družine v Cleveland, je rajnkin mož, ki je bil nadarjen kamnosek, odprl kamnoseško podjetje Carst Memorials, Inc., v katerem je izdeloval nagrobne kamne. Vedno več dokazov o popolni iraški zmagi nad iranskimi silami
BASRA, Irak. — Iraške o-blasti so povabile zahodne novinarje, da obiščejo bojišče pred južnim mestom Basra. Novinarji so se odzvali povabilu in med obiskom opazili veliko število še ne pokopanih trupel iranskih vojakov, ki so padli v nedavni iranski ofenzivi, katere cilj je bil Basra.
Po izjavah iraških častnikov, je fronta dolga kakih 35 milj, za časa njihovega obiska pa novinarji niso videli ali slišali nobenega streljanja. Novinarji niso smeli v Basro samo in sicer zaradi v a r n o s tnega razloga. Njih spremljevalci so dejali, da Iranci mesto še obstreljujejo s topništvom.
V	zadnjem tednu menda ni bilo nobene večje bitke med iranskimi in iraškimi četami. Opazovalci .vojne menijo, da so Iračani zavrnili iranski napad, da pa niso dovolj močni za protiofenzivo, ki bi izgnala iranske vojake iz iraškega ozemlja.
V	Teheranu ni opaziti zanimanja za premirje ali pogajanja, ki naj bi vodila do mirovne pogodbe.

gova žena. Po smrti g. Ko-sicha' st., je podjetje prevzel njegov sin Frank ml., ki ga lastuje in vodi še danes. Rajnka je bila članica dr. št. 53 SNPJ, kr. 1 PSA in Kluba slovenskih upokojencev na Waterloo Rd. Privaten pogreb na želji pokojne je bil v oskrbi Želetovega pogrebnega zavoda na E. 152 St. v sredo, 4. avgusta, na Lakeview pokopališče. Darovi Slovenskemu domu za ostarele v pokojničin spomin bodo s hvaležnostjo sprejeti.
John L. Dolence
V	ponedeljek, 2.'avgusta, je umrl John L. Dolence, mož Ellen, roj. Markert, oče Roberta, Johna, Ralpha in Charlesa, 8-krat stari oče. Pogreb bo iz Brickmanovega pogrebnega zavoda na 21900 Euclid Ave. danes, v petek, v cerkev sv. Marije Magdalene ob 10. dopoldne, od tam na pokopališče Vernih duš.
BEJRUT, Li. — V sredo in četrtek so izraelske vojaške sile zopet napadle palestinske položaje v Zahodnem Bejrutu in okolici. Po mnenju zahodnih novinarjev, so bili napadi najsrditejši doslej.
Izraelska letala so bombardirala neusmiljeno, izraelski topničarji pa so obstreljevali znane položaje PLO. Ker kontrolirajo Izraelci vodovodni sistem za Zahodni Bejrut in so vodo zaprli, v prizadetih krajih mesta ni mogoče požarov gasiti.
Bolnišnice v Zahodnčm Bejrutu so prenapolnjene z ranjenci, zdravniki pa nimajo več dovolj zdravil.
Izraelski vojaki napredujejo proti središču Zahodnega Bejruta, predstavniki vlade Menahema Begina in obrambnega ministrstva pa še vedno trdijo, da ne gre za končni napad na PLO v Bejrutu.
Namen izraelskih napadov je, pravijo v Jeruzalemu, da pritiskajo na vodstvo PLO z Jasirjem Arafatom na čelu, da pristane na umik vseh oboroženih gverilcev in seveda tudi celotnega političnega vodstva iz Libanona. Bsez neposrednega vojaškega pritiska, pravijo Izraelci, bodo skušali PLO voditelji pogajanja o umiku zavlačevati.
Jasir Arafat je menda prepričan, da nima drugega izhoda, kot da ostane v Bejrutu skupaj s svojimi borci. Arafat v svojih govorih, v katerih skuša navduševati PLO gverilce za nadaljnje vojskovanje zoper očitno premoč Izraela, poudarja, da morajo biti vsi člani in članice PLO pripravljeni na borbo do smrti.
Menahem Begin je bil zelo bojevit, ko je govoril na zborovanju predstavnikov raznih judovskih organizacij v ZDA in drugih državah, ki so na obisku v Izraelu. Naj nihče ne skuša pritiskati na Izrael glede izraelskega vdora v Libanon in naj ne pričakuje, da bodo Izraelci popustili v zvezi s PLO umikom iz Libanona, je dejal Begin. Prisotnost PLO v Libanonu gre hitro h koncu, je nadaljeval izraelski premier.
Preteklo sredo zvečer je Varnostni svet Združenih narodov glasoval za resolucijo, ki je zahtevala od Izraela takojšen konec vojskovanja. Čeprav je ameriški predstavnik resolucijo kritiziral in jo označil za pristransko, ZDA je niso vetirale. Izraelski predstavnik v ZN je rekel po glasovanju, da Izrael resolucije ne bo spoštoval.
Predsednik Reagan je dejal, da obe strani morata spoštovati premirje v Libanonu, dodal pa je, da PLO mora to državo zapustiti. O kakšnih ameriških sankcijah zoper Izrael ni govora, pravijo v Beli hiši in državnem tajništvu.

ZDA izdajajo več za obrambne namene, kot vsi zavezniki skupaj
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Poročilo, ki ga je objavilo o-brambno tajništvo ZDA, kaže, da so izdatki ZDA za o-brambne namene večji, kot so izdatki v ta namen vseh ameriških zaveznikov z Japonsko vred. ZDA prispevajo največ denarja, moštva in o-preme za skupno obrambo Zahoda od Sovjetske zveze, pravi poročilo.
Posebno zaostaja v tem o-ziru Japonska. Japonci po pravilih njihove 'ustave ne smejo imeti redne vojske, prav tako ne smejo imeti jedrskega in tudi drugega o-rožja napadalnega značaja. Kljub temu, trdijo v Pentagonu, bi mogli Japonci veliko več prispevati k skupnim o-brambnim namenom tkzv. svobodnega sveta.
Po podatkih, ki jih je za pravkar objavljeno poročilo zbralo obrambno tajništvo, krijejo ZDA kar 53 odstotkov vseh stroškov v zvezi z obrambo Zahoda. Velika Britanija, Francija in Zahodna Nemčija prispevajo vsaka po 10 odstotkov, Italija in Japonska pa vsaka po pičlih 4 odstotkov.

Vprašanje delitve osebnih dohodkov v Jugoslaviji

BUENOS AIRES, Ar. — Že leta in leta govoričijo v komunističnih državah o primernih plačah, ki vsakemu zagotavljajo dostojno življenje. O pravičnih plačah na svetu govore tudi razni papeži v enciklikah. Toda papež more s svojimi besedami le posredno vplivati na pravično plačevanje delavcev.
Drugače je v komunističnih državah, kjer ima partija v rokah vso oblast in s tem vso možnost pravičnega nagrajevanja dela. Pa kljub temu vladajo v komunističnem svetu še večje socialne krivice kot v kapitalističnem.
Tudi v Jugoslaviji, kjer modrujejo na veliko o samo-
upravljanju, po katerem s sporazumi določajo vse prav in primerno in plače — osebni dohodki jim pravijo — pravično dele, ni vse tako rožnato, kot bi radi prikazali svetu.
Samoupravljanje je sicer lepa beseda, pa le na prvi pogled. Pri osebnih dohodkih nastajajo prav na podlagi “samoupravljanja” v Sloveniji precejšnja neskladja in protislovja, ki so že tako velika, da so se za zadevo začeli zanimati sami oblastniki in pa tudi Zveza sindikatov Slovenije.
“Sindikalisti” zahtevajo izvajanje načela “Za približno enako delo s približno enakovredno izobrazbo tudi pri-
bližno enake osebne dohodke”. Sicer niso za “uravnilovko”, po kateri naj bi vsi imeli enake dohodke. Toda sindikati ugotavljajo, da so dohodki, ki bi morali biti približno enaki, ali vsaj sorazmerni, v resnici zelo neenaki.
Učitelj razrednega pouka s končano pedagoško akademijo je lani dobil v Sevnici mesečno 9500 dinarjev, vodja saldakon tnega oddelka v Ljubljanski Jugotehni pa 17,500. Za to mesto se zahteva srednja ekonomska šola.
V podjetju Elgro, kjer so tudi zaposleni v večini s srednješolsko izobrazbo, so imeli povprečno le po 14,000 dinarjev mesečno. Diplomirani strojni inženir z opravlje- ..
nim strokovnim izpitom v podjetju Agens ni mogel zaslužiti več kot 13,500 dinarjev. Za primerjavo navajamo tudi vrednost dolarja: novembra 1981 38 dinarjev, junija 1982 pa 46.
Davčni inšpektor v Slovenj Gradcu pa je za svoje delo dobil celo 22,000 dinarjev. Za to mesto se zahteva diploma višje upravne šole in triletna praksa. Višja upravna šola je na isti stopnji kot pedagoška akademija. Kako je torej z geslom: Podobna izobrazba — podobni prejemki. Je morda “zbiranje družbenih dajatev” pomembnejše in odgovornejše delo, kot delo učitelja, se sprašujejo v sindikatih.

Romanje v Frank—
Romanje v Frank, Ohio, ki ga vsako leto prireja DSPB Cleveland, se bo letos vršilo v nedeljo, 26. septembra. Voznina je $8 na osebo. Prijave sprejemajo Vinko Rožman (881-2852), Lojze Bajc (486-3515) in Marija Meglič (761-1060).
Za člane Kluba slov. upokojencev na St. Clair—
Ker bo v sredo, 18. avgusta, piknik Federacije klubov slovenskih upokojencev na ADZ letovišču v Leroy Townshipu, se bo seja Kluba slov. upokojencev na St. Clair Ave. vršila v četrtek, 12. avgusta, in ne 19. avgusta, kot bi se morala. Na seji 12. avgusta se bodo pogovorili o prevozu na piknik, zato so vabljeni vsi člani, da pridejo na sejo in se prijavijo.

Nevarne ofroške bolezni zelo omejene
Atlanta — “Center of Disease Control” v Atlanti javlja, da se je število večjih otroških bolezni v zadnjih letih izredno znižalo. Vse vrste ošpic bodo do prihodnje jeseni takorekoč odpravljene. To so dosegli z obveznim cepljenjem otrok. Statistika za leto 1981 pokazuje, da je bilo število obolenj na ošpicah, mumps, polio, rubella in tetanus rekordno nizko.
Federalni zdravstveni uradniki tudi javljajo, da bodo kmalu izpopolnili novo cepivo proti oslovskemu kašlju (whooping cough), ki bo nadomestilo dosedanje zelo ri-skantno cepivo. Cepivo, ki so ga doslej uporabljali proti oslovskemu kašlju je v gotovih slučajih imelo več neprijetnih stranskih posledic, nekatere celo nevarne. Okrog 2000 otrok vsako leto oboli na oslovskem kašlju, a smrtnih slučajev je zelo malo.
“Sportsfest”—
To nedeljo, 8. avgusta, priredi Slovenski športni klub svoj tretji vsakoletni poletni Sportsfest na Slovenski pristavi. Tekmovanja se bodo začela ob enih popoldne, prijava ekip bo možna do 12.30 popoldne v nedeljo. Na voljo bodo razna okusna okrepčila in pijača ter glasba.
Žalostna vest—
Matevž Založnik, Paines-ville, Ohio je prejel žalostno vest, da mu je v Ljubljani umrl sin France. Pokojni zapušča v domovini brata in dve sestri, tu pa očeta in brata. Naše sožalje.
Žegnanjski festival—
V nedeljo, 15. avgusta, priredi fara Marije Vnebovzete na Holmes Ave. žegnanjski festival. Pete litanije bodo ob dveh popoldne, od 3. do 9. zvečer pa festival v družabni dvorani Baraga. Farani in prijatelji vljudno vabljeni.

Nekdanji veleposlanik Jugoslavije v ZDA Veljko Mičunovič umrl
BEOGRAD, SFRJ. — V tukajšnji bolnišnici je po dolgem bolehanju umrl 66 let stari Veljko Mičunovič, bivši jugoslovanski veleposlanik v ZDA in ZSSR.
Mičunovič je postal član jugoslovanske kom unistične stranke v predvojni dobi, med vojno pa je bil v partizanskem gibanju in nosil odgovorne funkcije.
Po spravi med Josipom Brozom Titom in Nikito Hru-ščevom 1. 1955, je bil Mičunovič imenovan za veleposlanika SFRJ v Sovjetski zvezi in je tam služil 3 leta, od 1956 do 1958. Ponovno je bil veleposlanik v ZSSR v letih 1969- 1971. Svoje spomine o tem službovanju je objavil pred leti, v ZDA je izšel tudi angleški prevod.
Mičunovič je prišel v ZDA kot veleposlanik SFRJ 1. 1962 in tu služil do 1. 1967.

Pred štiridesetimi leti

Dne 14. decembra 1940 zvečer je — med predstavo “Pikove dame” v Beograjski operi — povsem nepričakovano umrl dr. A.nton Korošec. Po državni počastitvi v Beogradu je bilo njegovo trupjo prepeljano v Ljubljano, kjer je po nepozabnem pogrebu bilo položeno v skromno grobnico na Navju, malem pokopališču velikih Slovencev.
Ogromen ljubljanski pogreb je pričeval o izrednem pomenu dr. Korošca kot slovenskega političnega prvaka v razdobju skoraj 30 let (1913-1940), odkar je od dr. Ivana Šušteršiča prevzel predsedstvo slovenske parlamentarne delegacije na Dunaju. Umrl je v starosti 68 let. Letos je poteklo 110 let od njegovega rojstva v Šentjurju ob Ščavnici na vzhodnem obronku Slovenskih goric. Ob njegovi smrti se je ogromna Večina Slovencev zavedala njegovih zgodovinskih dosežkov. Vsi smo občutili nenadomestljivo izgubo, ki je s Koroščevim odhodom zadela Slovenijo in Jugoslavijo v usodnem času druge svetovne vojne.

Dr. Korošec je slovenski politiki moderne dobe dal povsem novo dimenzijo. Od samega Boga poslani France' Prešeren je z vrhunsko poezijo dokončno afirmiral slovenski književni jezik in višjo kulturo. Anton Martin Slomšek je prebudil slovensko narodnostno in družbeno zavest med preprostim ljudstvom ogroženih severnih slovenskih dežel. Iz teh osnov je sredi 19. stoletja vzklila narodno-politična težnja po združeni Sloveniji. Po sledečih desetletjih težavne narodne rasti brez lastne države ali vsaj samouprave so šele katoliški shodi (1892, 1900, 1906, 1913) slovensko narodno življenje razgibali. Predvsem po zaslugi Janeza Ev. Kreka so v&nj vdahnili dpha naprednih socialnih okrožnic Leona XIII. Dr. Ivan Šušteršič se je vrgel v množično organiziranje zadrug, ki sta jih nato s Krekom razvila do take širine in višine, da je mnogostransko zadružništvo postalo hrbtenica slovenskega gospodarskega razvoja. Po letu 1910 so dr. Franjo Šuklje, dr. Ivan Šušteršič in dr. Evgen Lampe končno uspeli upravno-politično posloveniti in gospodarsko utrditi osrednjo slovensko deželo Kranjsko. Dr. Šušteršič in dr. Korošec sta oživljeno, a upravno-politično razkosano Slovenijo demokratično povezala v skupnem parlamentarnem predstavništvu na Dunaju.
Tako nastajajočo Slovenijo je nato dr. Anton Korošec politično afirmiral v okviru podonavske monarhije in čez. Ko je po razsulu Avstro-Ogrske močno okrnjena Slovenija postala nesamostojen del unitaristične Kraljevine Srbov, Hrvatov in Slovencev, je dr. Korošec do svoje smrti vodil neenako borbo za demokratizacijo in zvezno preureditev večnarodne dr žave.
Ker so ti zapisi le osebni spomini, nanizani v odgovarjajočem zgodovinskem okviru, v kolikor so potrebni za osvetlitev od E. Kardelja (v odsotnosti B. Kidriča) naročenega partijskega umora profesorja Lamberta Ehrlicha, bom samo na kratko označil nekatere dr. Koroščeve politične došežke in razočaranja.
Leta 1917 je dr. Korošec dunajskemu parlamentu predložil Majniško deklaracijo kot uradni izraz slovenskih narodnopolitičnih zahtev v zvezi s prvo svetovno vojno. Ob ustanovitvi Narodnega sveta za Slovenijo v Ljubljani 16. avg. 1913 je dr. Korošec postal njegov prvi predsednik. Dne 5. oktobra 1918 je bil izvoljen za predsednika Narodnega veča (vlade) začasne države SHS (bivše habsburške monarhije) v Zagrebu. Dne 20. decembra 1918 je postal podpredsednik prve vlade nove “Kraljevine SHS” v Beogradu. Zatem je dr. Korošec sodeloval v naslednjih vladah do volitev v ustavodajno skupščino 28. novembra 1920. V tem času je predvsem varoval začasno slovensko vlado v Ljubljani, od beograjske vlade pa je dosegel ustanovitev slovenske univerze. Kako so se potem politične razmere v novi državi slabšale, je razvidno tudi iz dejstva, da je dr. Korošec mogel doseči izpopolnitev slovenske univerze šele po nastopu Stojadinovičeve vlade junija 1935 in končno kot prosvetni, minister julija 1940.
V odsotnosti Hrvatov je srbska večina v ustavodajni skupščini izglasovala unitaristično in centralistično Vidovdansko ustavo (28. junija 1921), ki je Slovenijo tudi v (Beogradu podrejenih) upravnih zadevah razklala v dve ločeni “oblasti”. A že pri prvih parlamentarnih volitvah 18. marca 1923 je v Sloveniji avtonomistična SLS zmagala ž nad 60% glasov in dobila 21 od 26 slovenskih poslancev. Na Hrvaškem je podobno

večino dobila Radičeva stranka s 70 poslanci. Prišlo je do obetajočega sporazuma med SLS, Radičevimi Hrvati in bosanskimi Muslimani. Tega pa je izigral Nikola Pašic, ko je njegova vlada julija 1923 odredila kazenski pregon proti Radiču.
Razširjen sporazum revizijonistične opozicije (SLS, Radič, Muslimani in srbski Demokrati) leta 1924 je bil takoj oslabljen z odcepom S. Pribičeviča (22 poslancev) od L. Davidovi-. čeve Demokratske stranke, s katerim je Pašič sestavil novo “PP” vlado. Zloglasna “Obznana” je bila razširjena na Radičevo stranko. Radič se je skril v ilegalo, dr. Maček pa je bil aretiran. Kralj je razpustil parlament. Pri naslednjih volitvah februarja 1925 je SLS v Sloveniji zopet dobila absolutno večino-glasov in 20 poslancev (od 26).
Da se znebi “protidržavnega” preganjanja, je Radičeva stranka marca 1925 javno priznala Vidovdansko ustavo in se odrekla “republikanstvu” (tako je iz Radičeve HRSS nastala HSS). Toda Pašičev parlament je priznal izvolitev HSS poslancev šele, ko je Radič zapustil opozicionalno koalicijo ih stopil v Pašičevo vlado julija 1925. Vkljub temu je kralj parlament razpustil. Pri novih volitvah septembra 1927 je SLS zopet dobila 60 odstotkov glasov in 20 poslancev, Radičeva HSS pa 61. Šele po teh volitvah je SLS prišla v vlado za več kot le tpar mesecev (kot leta 1924 in od februarja do aprila 1927) — a brez Hrvatov. SLS je v vladi, ostala do usodnih strelov v parlamentu 20. junija 1928. Po tej tragediji dvor ni videl drugega izhoda, kot da je poveril sestavo nove vlade Slovencu dr. Korošcu, ki pa — brez Hrvatov in z nevoljnimi Srbi — seveda h! mogel doseči zvezne preureditve. Potem, ko je zaradi umika Davidovičevih Demokratov dr. Koroščeva vlada 31. decembra 1928 odstopila, je kralj Aleksander 6. januarja 192D proglasil, že omenjeno dvorsko diktaturo.
Po izstopu iz prve Živkovičeve vlade septembra 1931 je dr. Korošec 81. decembra 1932 podtalno razglasil Slovensko deklaracijo (“Punktacije”), s katero je pod Aleksandrovo diktaturo obnovil odprto borbo za demokratizacijo in zvezno preureditev države. Na tej osnovi je dr. Korošec po svojem povratki/ iz internacije oktobra 1934 našel novo priložnost za popravo osnovnih napak, ki so- bile zagrešene 1. decembra .1913 in 6. januarja 1929.
Brez dr. Koroščeve odločitve za abstinenco podtalne SLS pri Jeftičevih volitvah maja 1935, brez njegovega vstopa v Stc-iadinovičevo vlado junija 1935, brez njegove izvedbe novih parlamentarnih volitev decembra 1938, brez njegovega povolilnega izstopa iz Stojadinovičeve vlade — da jo vrže — in brez njegovega vztrajnega vplivanja na kneza Pavla bi ne bilo prišlo do končnega sporazuma s Hrvati, kot začetka zvezne preureditve večnarodne države — a, žal, prepozno.

Poleg naznačenih beograjskih ovir df. Koroščevim napo-rcm za preureditev Jugoslavije je potrebno omeniti tudi nekaj drugih okolnosti, ki so kalile dr. Koroščevo vlogo v slovenski politični zgodovini pred drugo svetovno vojno. Značilnosti vodilne politične vloge v narodu brez lastne države, ki se mora uveljavljati v zunanjih središčih oblasti (Dunaj, Beo-

grad), so dr. Korošca odrezale od dnevnih dogajanj v Sloveniji. V Ljubljani ni imel pomočnikov, ki bi znali brez njega uspešno usmerjati razvoj k dosegi poglavitnih slovenskih ciljev.	'	.	.	_
Z razsulom Avstro-Ogrske leta 1918 so postali brezpredmetni razlogi, ki so odvračali dr. Šušteršiča od politike dr. Korošca. Morda bi dr. Korošec takrat zmogel politično spravo s svojim izredno sposobnim predhodnikom. To bi močno utrdilo politične razmere v prevratni Sloveniji, ko' je bilo treba naglo odločati o praktičnem reševanju slovenske Primorske, Štajerske in Koroške. A to se ni zgodilo. Politično neizkušeno vodstvo narodne vlade v Ljubljani ni znalo uporabiti niti razpoložljivih vojaških enot in gospodarskih sredstev za učinkovito zasedbo slovenskih predelov' Koroške in Primorske.
Dr. Korošec je brez potnega lista, ki mu ga srbska vlada ni pravočasno izdala, bil Zadržan v Švici, ko je zastopstvo Narodnega veča SHS, katerega predsednik je bil, v naglici odhitelo v Beograd in tam 1. decembra 1918 pristalo na “zedinjenje” brez vsakih dogovorov o osnovni ureditvi večnarodne države. Od Slovencev v delegaciji Veča niso bili samo unitaristični “liberalci”, temveč tudi predsednik Narodne vlade v Ljubljani, dr. Janko Brejc, vodilni član SLS. Ali se z dr. Korošcem niso prej dogovorili o vsebini zedinjenja?

Še vedno se slišijo očitki, da je dr. Korošec bil preveč.“jugoslovanske/” usmerjen. Ti očitki niso realistični. Narodno-osvobpdilni napori v Avstro-Ogrski so bili južnoslovansko o-kvirjeni, ker, so zahtevali skupne napore s Hrvati in Srbi (in drugimi narodi v monarhiji). V, zgodovinski perspektivi bi bila po prvi svetovni vojni ža Slovence najboljša rešitev, če bi ha podlagi Wilsonovih točk prišlo do kdhfederalizacije Avstro-Ogrske, v kateri bi cilj Združene Slovenij e bil v celoti uresničen. Toda, te rešitve ni preprečil dr. Korošec — kakor je tudi ne bi bil mogel izvesti-dr. Šušteršič — ker so jo zavrgli avstrijski Nemci in habsburški dvor.
Ko je namesto konfederirane podonavske monarhije na-.stala Kraljevina SHS, je dr. Korošec izhajal iz predpostavke, da je po zaključeni vojni mogoče slovenski narodni položaj izboljšati le v,okviru obstoječe SHS. V tem je bilo bistvo njegove politike po letu 1918. Po letu 1935 je to skoraj dosegel. Zdi se pa, da. je predolgo vztrajal v Stopadinovičevi vladi (1935-38), ki je zavlačevala volitve'in sporazum s Hrvati. Tudi ni povsem jasno, zakaj dr. Korošec ni dosegel, da bi se istočasno z že itak poznim nastankom Banovine Hrvatske avgusta 1939 ustanovila tudi enako samostojna Slovenija, ki je imela nesporne meje.
Vem le, da je dr. Korošec omenjal, da to takrat ni bilo sprejemljivo ne Srbom in ne Hrvatom, ker se niso mogli sporazumeti o razmejitvi južnih delov države in bi zato istočasna ustanovitev avtonomne Slovenije Jugoslavijo prerezala v dvoje in to na pragu druge svetovne vojne.

O ponovni ocenitvi nepremičnin
CLEVELAND, O. — Te tedne prejemajo lastniki nepremičnin v okraju Cuyahoga obrazce od okrajnega av-ditorja Matthewa J. Hatcha-doriana, na katerih so podatki o ponovni ocenitvi nepremičnin, ki jih lastujejo v tem okraju. Tisti, ki bivajo na vzhodni strani Clevelanda, bodo te obrazce prejeli prihodnji teden, drugi, ki bivajo v okraju, jih že imajo.
Okrajni avditor je dolžan po zakonu ponovno oceniti nepremičnine vsakih 6 let. Po zakonu je bila ponovna ocenitev potrebna letos. V o-brazcu, ki so ga lastniki nepremičnin prejeli oz. bodo prejeli, so podatki o dosedanji vrednosti njihovih nepremičnin, o davku na te nepremičnine, ki so ga doslej plačevali, ter o raznih ugodnostih (npr. Homestead Exemp-tioi), ki jih je posameznik izkoriščal.
Prav tako so na obrazcu podatki o tem, kakšne vrednosti so lastnikov-e nepremičnine po naj novejši ocenitvi. Povprečno povišanje vrednosti v okraju je 8.6%, odvisno pa je od tega, v katerem delu Clevelanda ali predmestju živite. V Euclidu in Clevelandu, na primer, vrednost hiš in drugih nepremičnin ni veliko višja in je za mnoge lastnike celo nižja, kar pa ne drži za taka predmestja, kot Pepper Pike, Richmond Hts. itd.
Lastniki bodo v bodoče obdavčeni na podlagi ugotovitev naj novejše ocenitve svojih nepremičnin. Obrazec, ki ga je te dni poslal lastnikom nepremičnin g. Hatchadorian, ni račun. Ni. treba nič plačati. Povej samo, koliko je po mnenju ocenjevalcev, zaposlenih pri okrajnem avditor-ju,. vredna vaša hiša. Spodaj na obrazcu je navedena tudi približna ocena tistega davka, ki ga boste plačevali v bodo-
če na podlagi nove ocenitve vaših nepremičnin. Vsota, navedena na obrazcu, je približna, po vsej verjetnosti pa zelo blizu dejanskega bodočega davka.
Ako ne soglašate z ocenitvijo vaših nepremičnin, imate pravico, da vložite pritožbo. Na obratni strani obrazca boste našli drugi obrazec, ki ga lahko izpolnite in vrnete okrajnemu avditor ju.
Če boste vložili pritožbo, kar je vaša pravica in je tudi brezplačna, boste morali navesti točen vzrok, zakaj ste prepričani, da je ocenitev vaših nepremičnin previsoka. Na obrazcu je navedenih več -možnih razlogov, poleg obrazca pa lahko pristavite še drugo 'gradivo, ki podpira vaše stališče. Med možnostmi je, na primer, da se hiše zadnje čase na vaši ulici prodajajo za nižjo vsoto, kot je ocenjena vrednost vaše hiše. Morda ste pa hišo pred nedavnim kupili in zanjo plačali veliko manj, kot je njena sedanja ocenjena vrednost. Vsak pameten razlog bodo vzeli v poštev pri okrajnem avditor ju.
Poudarjajo pa, da razlog za pritožbo, ki ga ne bodo upoštevali, bi bila vaša preprosta trditev, da se vam zdi o-cenjena vrednost vaših nepremičnin previsoka. Morate povedati, zakaj je to vaše mnenje.
V slučaju, da ste zadovoljni z ocenitvijo vaših nepremičnin, ni treba, da kaj storite. Pametno bi pa bilo, da bi hranili obrazec, ki vam ga je poslal okrajni avditor.
Za tiste, ki bodo vložili pritožbo, je važno dejstvo, da bodo ocenjevalci okrajnega avditorja res ponovno pretehtali, ali je bila prvotna o-cenitev pravilna ali ne. Lahko pa se zgodi, da bodo; določili še višjo vrednost za vašo hišo po tem ponovnem pregledu.
Na vprašanje urednika A.D. na posebni tiskovni konferenci, ki jo je imel g. Hatchadorian za urednike etničnih listov, izhajajočih v Clevelandu in okolici, je okrajni avditor svetoval takole: če je razlika med ocenjeno vrednostjo vaših nepremičnin in vašim osebnim mnenjem o njih vrednosti manjša od 10 odstotkov, je najboljše, da ne vložite pritožbe. VALENTIN MAVKO
Podlegel je v Euclid General bolnici po daljši bolezni. Rojen je bil 12. februarja 1894 v Gornjem Jezeru, fara Lož, Notranjska, Slovenija. Prišel je v Ameriko leta 1913. Od leta 1924 do 1968 je živel na farmi v Madisonu, Ohio, in tudi delal za New York Central železnico. Kasneje se je preselil v Collinwood, in bil nekaj let vrtnar pri cerkvi Marije Vnebovzete. Bil je član Druš. Najsvetejšega Imena, Marijine Legije in Dr uš. št. 9, A.D.Z.
Pogreb je bii iz A. Grdina pogrebnega zavoda, Lake-shore Blvd., 27. aprila 1982, ob 10. uri dopoldan, v cerkev Marije Vnebovzete, in od tam na pokopališče All Souls. Globoko zahvalo naj prejme župnik č.g. Viktor Tomc, ki je daroval pogrebno sv. mašo in vodil rožni venec v pogrebni kapeli, za njegove molitve v kapeli in na pokopališču, za njegovo lepo pridigo in za njegove obiske v bolnici. Najlepšo hvalo naj prejmeta koncelebranta sv. maše, čč.gg. Louis Tomtz in kanonik Rajko Hobart. Lepa hvala kanoniku Hobartu, ki se je poslovil od pokojnika v pogrebni kapeli, in č.g. Martin Louis-u, kaplanu v Euclid General bolnici, za njegove številne obiske.
Srčno smo hvaležni članom in članicam društev, katerim je pripadal, za glasno molitev sv. rožnega venca. Naj Bog stotero poplača vsem, ki so mu poslali karte in ga obiskali v bolnici, vsem, ki so darovali prekrasne vence in cvetlice, za sv. maše, in vsem, ki so darovali v dobrodelne namene v njegov spomin, ter za številne izraze sožalja.
Iz dna srca se zahvaljujemo vsem našim prijateljem, ki so prišli rajnkega pokropit, molili za njegovo dušo, se udeležili pogrebne sv. maše, in spremili našega ljubljenega do groba na pokopališču Vernih Duš, Chardon, Ohio.
Najlepšo zahvalo naj prejmejo sorodniki pogrebci, ki so ga spremili na zadnji poti: Dale Knaus; Robert Knaus; Victor Petrovič; John Peters; Louis Legan in Lou Mavko.
Lepo se zahvalimo organistu g. Rudiju Knezu in gospej Tillie Špehar, za ganljivo petje v cerkvi, ter g. Albertu Amigo ni, uradniku druš. št. 9, A.D.Z., ki se je v lepih besedah poslovil od pokojnika.
Zelo smo hvaležni gospej Mariji Dular, in njenim pomočnicam, za tako izvrstno pripravljeno kosilo po pogrebu v Slov. Domu na Holmes Ave.
Hvaležni smo pogrebnemu zavodu A. Grdina za vso postrežbo in skrbno vodenje pogrebnega sprevoda.
Razposlali smo zahvalne kartice vsem, ki sb se nas in našega ljubljenega posebno spomnili, in za katere smo imeli naslove. Ako kdo take kartice ni prejel, naj nam oprosti, in naj s to javno zahvalo sprejme našo globoke hvaležnost.

He closed his weary eyes on Apr. 23, 1982 at Euclid General Hospital, after a lengthy illness, prepared for eternity with the last sacraments of the Church.
Our beloved was born Feb.^12, 1894, at Gornje Jezero, fara Loz, Notranjsko, Slovenia. He came to America in the year 1913. From 1924 to 1968, he lived on a farm in Madison, O., and also was employed by N.Y. Central R.R. Later he relocated to Collinwood, and for some years was a landscaper for St. Mary’s Church. He was a member of St. Mary’s Holy Name Society, Legion of Mary, and Lodge No. 9, A.M.L.A.
Services were held cn Apr. 27,1982 from the A, Grdina Lakeshore Funeral Home, with a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, Holmes Ave., with burial following at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, O. We are especially grateful to Rev. Victor Tome, pastor of St. Mary’s, for celebration of the Mass, leading the rosary at the funeral home, his prayers there and at gravesite, his beautiful homily, and his visits at the hospital. Our heartfelt thanks are extended to the concelebrants of the funeral Mass, Rev. Louis Tomtz and Rev. Canon Raymond Hobart, and to the latter for his prayers and visitation at the funeral chapel. Special thanks to Rev. Martin Louis, Chap-plain at. Euclid Genera: Hospital, for his many visits to our beloved.
Deep appreciation is extended to all members of organizations he belonged to, wdio in such large numbers came to pray the rosary, and paid final homage to our loved one. May God bless everyone a hundredfold for their visits and get well cards while he was hospitalized; to all for their beautiful floral pieces, Mass offerings, charitable donations in his memory, their visitations and prayers at the funeral home, and for the many expressions of sympathy.
From the depth of our hearts we thank our many friends who attended the church services, and accompanied our beloved Val to his final resting place at All Souls Cemetery.
Many thanks to our relatives pallbearers: Dale Knaus; Robert Knaus; Victor Petrovič; John Peters; Louis Legan, and Lou Mavko, who accompanied him on his last journey.
We are grateful to organist Mr. Rudi Knez, and Mrs. Tillie Špehar, for the beautiful singing in church, and also to Mr. Albert Amigoni, officer of Lodge No. 9, A.M.L.A., for his words of farewell.
We are thankful to all who remained with us for some lime after the funeral, and shared in the fine luncheon prepared by Mrs. Marie Dular, and her aides, in the Slovenian Home on Holmes Ave.
Thank you also to the A. Grdina Funeral Home for their courtesies, and careful attention to all of the funeral details.

SVETOVNI POPOTNIK PRIPOVEDUJE
- Žarel je od veselja, ko sem ga spoznal; imel je prošnjo, katero je brez obotavljanja izrazil. Rad bi na fronto, v Evropo, kamorkoli, samo da ne bo natakar, kot je bil po povelju odrejen. Napisal sem mu v naglici priporočilno pismo, naslovljeno na Mr. Mud-gea pri O.S.S. V zahvalo je prinesel pijačo, a s Paulom sva morala hiteti.
Polet je bil čez Portoriko s prvim postajališčem v Casa-blanki, kjer sem dobil prvi neprijetni vtis bodočega sodelovanja z zavezniki Rusi. V čakalnici je stala skupina o-koli 40 lepo uniformiranih mladih ruskih letalcev, ki so bili na poti v Ameriko po letala. Pritajeno so se pogovarjali med seboj. Približal sem se .jim in nagovoril dva najbližja. Mogoče iz vljudnosti sta ostala, da odgovorita, a vsi drugi so se na mah umaknili kot na povelje.
Prijazna fanta sta se mi zdela boječa in njuni odgovori so bili skoraj. neglasni. A do razgovora ni prišlo. Pristopil je starejši oficir, ju samo z očmi pokaral in odvedel k skupini v drugem kotu čakalnice. Oziral sem se za njimi in videl, kako je starejši oba s x komolcem dregnil. Oči-vidno jim je bilo prepovedano govoriti z zavezniki.
Po afriškili postajah v Alži-ru in Bizerti sva dospela v Napoli, kjer se je zbrala skupina 20 oficirjev in vojakov za polet v Bolgarijo. Čakali so tam že dva tedna za rusko dovoljenje. Gen. Crane, načelnik ameriškega oddelka, je z majhnim štabom že bil v Sofiji, pa je imel sitnosti izposlovati od generala (pozneje maršala) Birjuzova dovoljenje, da izpopolni svoj oddelek. Mogoče je vrhovni komandant moral sam prositi Moskvo za odobrenje, kot se je vršilo pozneje celo v zadevah, ki so se nam zdele malenkostne.
V Napoli sem ostal samo tri dni, prisiljen. Prvo noč je zapadlo tri palce snega. Nastanjen po prihodu v mrzli baraki, sem si na vlažni slamnati postelji nakopal tak hud prehlad, da je doktor našega bolgarskega oddelka, polkovnik Gronemayer ugotavljal pljučnico.
Čez tri dni sem zadostno o-kreval, da sem se s kapetanom Paulom podal v Rim. On je kot vnet katoličan ves o-, bisk posvetil ogledu Vatikana, jaz pa sem se to pot bolj zanimal za kolonijo jugoslovanskih beguncev, ki so se zbirali v apartmanih velike zgradbe na via Trieste, in njihovega voditelja Živka Topa-

Na povratku v Caserto pri Napoli, kjer se je končno zbrala večina osebja našega dela komisije, sem imel srečo nabrati iz vojnega skladišča volnene posteljne odeje in toplo spodnje perilo, kar je moj narednik odpeljal v Rim za razdelitev med begunce.
General Crane je nestrpno pričakoval skupino iz Italije, da se tako izpopolni ameriški deT komisije. Enake težave z zavlačevanjem dovoljenja za prihod so imeli Angleži. Razlogi, katerih so se Rusi posluževali, so bili čisto namišljeni izgovori glede nezadostnih zalog za prehrano, stanovanja in naše varstvo. Sami so že rekvirirali zgradbe za tisoče svojih oficirjev in urade.

Crane je bil sicer sloveč in visoko : odlikovan poveljnik artilerijske divizije, ki je odločilno prodirala v Tuniziji, toda nikak diplomat ali politik, da bi se znal spretno pogajati z ruskim načelnikom. Poslanik Barnes, izkušen diplomat, je bil veliko sposobnejši za take vrste položaja ali borbo, da bi se v bistvu u-ravnavala naša enakopravnost z Rusi. Tudi on je bil brez moči, ker se posvetovanja in pogajanja niso vršila z diplomati, temveč v vsakem pogledu 2 Moskvo.
General Birjuzov, nič več kot orodje oddaljene sovjetske oblasti v Kremlju, se ni dal pregovoriti v nobenem o-ziru drugače kot na korist ne Bolgarije ali zaveznikov, temveč samo Moskve. V vseh ozirih je moral dobiti odobrenje iz Rusije in to je vedno predstavljalo zavlačitve, seveda na našo škodo. Mogočna armada, kateri je poveljeval, pa je služila za prepričanje Bolgarov in vsega sveta, kakšno obliko “demokratično” u-rejenega ustroja države si že-lijo.	' . •

Slovenian Sports Games This Sunday

The Slovenian Sports Club of. Cleveland is extending an invitation for all to come to their summer picnic to be held RAIN or SHINE on Sunday,-August 8th, at Slovenska Pristava.
The theme for this picnic is Sportsfest, a convention, of different types of competitive games and sports for all ages.
The major event of the afternoon, will be the third annual Superteams competition. It is an unusual event where almost anything goes and any team in the competition can win.
The sUperteams competition consists of the following events: the swimming relay race, the raft race, the sunning race, the goal kick, the refill race, the travoi pull, and evervbody’s favorite the obstacle course.
Teams competing in this event must consist of seven people of which at least two of the members have to be female. If you are interested in fielding a team for this event call either Mike Dolinar (481-7551), Tom Veider (944-7il09), or Ed Skubitz (946-4039). You also can register a
team by coming down to Slovenska Pristava the day of the picnic between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m., but be prompt because the superteams events will start at 1:00 p.m.
There will also be some competitions for the balinca and golf playing crowds.
First,: for all the balinca players, we’ve developed a competition to test your skill and ability. This is an individual event with prizes awarded to the top men and women players. Registrations will be held at the information booth during the event and rules and scoring will be explained by the referees. The balinca accuracy competition will be held between 2:30 pm and 5:00 pm.
As far as golfiing goes, we are going to have a “Nearest To the Hole” competition. This is also an individual event where the golfer tries to drive the ball close to the hole as possible. The winner of this event is the person who gets their ball nearest to the hole. The Nearest To The Hole competition will also be held between 2:30 pm and 5:00 pm.

THOUSANDS ATTEND FOLKLORE WEEKEND

Thousands of persons from all over the United States and Canada drove to the Slovenska Pristava during the weekend of July 3 and 4 to see hundreds of youngsters perform folk dances at the 2nd annual Slovenian Folklore Institute Festival.
A large stage was erected in back of the main building where folkdancers from across the continent showed them skills.
It was unbelievable how one group after another demonstrated their genius from 1 p.m. until well after dark and never the same artists repeating a routine. It is amazing to contemplate the vast variety of talent among the Slovenian youth.
Food and refreshments were readily available from throughout the area and no one had to wait in line long, despite the overflowing turnout. Even a bakery was set
up where fresh krofe was made. That seemed to be a popular stand.
The entire operation was under the superb direction of Eda Vovk Pusl whose untiring efforts on behalf of Slovenian culture was manifest in superb performances and rousing applause.
The Slovenians can be proud of their extraordinary multi-talented and profusely gifted youth. It was a weekend emensely enjoyed by thousands of persons and must be repeated next year.
Congratulations to Eda and her Folklore Institute for maintaining our outstanding Slovenian heritage and having the courage to continue to bring out the hidden ability of her many students, and encouraging and bringing together endowed guests from around the nation under one undeviating banner dedicated to our youth and the Slovenian legacy.

ONE OF THE SEST KSKJ DATS EVES

One of the most successful Ohio KSKJ picnics took place on Sunday, Aug. 1 at St. Joseph lodge 169 picnic grove on White Road in .Willoughby Hills, Ohio.
A bright, clear, sunny day dawned and continued thru-out the day as KSKJ members and friends began arriving around 1 p.m. and the flow did not cease until 9 pm.
Most of the Ohio lodges supplied workers who made sure all in attendance had plenty to eat, drink, music to listen to, and activities to keep them occupied.
The day was such a rousing success, by the evening,
all the food, bakery, drinks, and candy were completely sold out, and a ne.w generous supply was quickly ordered, and that, too, was soon gone. At the end of the festivities all that was left was good friends talking about shared happy memories of the afternoon’s events.
Ohio KSKJ Federation President, and national officer, Joseph Baškovič, said, “Surely this has got to be one of the best picnics we’ve ever held.”
He sincerely thanks all the workers and members and friends who worked together to make the day one of the most memorable on record.
Fairport Balinca Tourney Sept. 10-12
The Fairport Slovenian Club, 617y2 Third St., Fairport Harbor, is again sponsoring its annual Balina Tournament. This will be the 17th annual event.
It will be held at the Club on Friday-Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 10-11-12. Club President Tony Satej announced that this year, teams will be competing for a $500 purse with the top four teams coming into the money. The winning team captures the $250 first prize. Trophies will also be presented to each of the 4 members of the winning team.
Notices of the event have gone out to all the Slovenian Homes in the Cleveland area and it is expected that many of the homes will sponsor',
teams. Last year, 32 teams competed in the event.
Entry deadline for the tournament is Sept. 1-. The fee is $24 per team with each team consisting of four persons.
To enter the tournament print the names of the four team members on a sheet of paper, specify one of the names as captain and include his telephone number and address.
Enclose the $24 entry fee and mail to: Tournament Committee, American Slovenian Club, 6171/2 Third St., Fair-port Harbor, Ohio 44077.
A schedule of when each team bowls and other details will be mailed to the captain of each team entering.

185th “Old Wcrld Festival”, August 4 to 8 Cleveland’s Largest Neighborhood Festival
The fifth festival sponsored by the East 185th St. Business and Professional Association will take place Wednesday, August 4 through Sunday, August 8, all five days oh the Jachshaw Chevrolet lot at Canterbury Avenue and also on Saturday and Sunday at the Slovene Home for the Aged on Neff Road and . E. 1185th Street.
Highlights will include a big top entertainment tent for 1,000 people on the Jack-shaw lot; special free ethnic entertainment plus polka and dance bands daily for dancing; a big variety of old world foods; the annual international parade; and a benefit new car drawing. Likes Slovenian Big Band Sold

I hope the tape- of the Big Band from Ljubljana was kind of muafc that we both like afot and it is too bad, that just a few people know of exjstan.ce of this wonderful orchestra, which is THE BEST in Yugoslavia and one of the TOP BANDS in Europe today. All Slovenian Big Band Orchestra.
I mentioned to Tony Petkovšek, tp negotiate with radio people in Ljubljana to bring this band to the USA in exchange for our Brass Band going to Slovenia last summer, instead of another brass band from Slovenia, which would be much harder to sell here in America, than a swinging band from Slovenia, which could be easily presented at Music Hall for
AIL American people. Many radio stations would love to play this kind of recordings and promote the concert, but with a brass band I am not so sure about it.
"This band received first place in 1978 in West Berlin for their double LP “For you Cherie”.
The reason that this band plays so good, is of course the bands director Joze Privsek who is extremely talented young man and now one of the top arranger and composer in Europe, too bad, that this kind of records are not heard on Slovenian radio programs because they are very professional and many listeners would enjoy this kind of music.	.	..

Resurfacing of Wilson Mills Rd,
The City of Richmond Hts. has entered into a contract with Stephen Hovancsek' & Associates regarding engineering services for the proposed resurfacing of Wilson Mills Road. The County Engineer along with the engineers of Highland and Mayfield Hts. will participate in the resurfacing of Wilson Mills which is scheduled to begin in 1983. Richmond Heights’ portion of the engineering fee will be $30,000 which will be paid in two payments of $15,000 over a two year period.
Community Service Program
Richmond Hts. entered into an agreement with Lyndhurst Municipal Court which stipulates that persons guilty of misdemeanors such as public intoxication may perform community services if they do not have the money .to pay the court fine.
Examples of the services include picking up litter or washing city cars. Richmond Hts. is the first community in the Hillcrest area to accept this program.
Richmond . Hts. has the option to withdraw from this program or reject certain persons and also determine the number that will be accepted to .work in Richmond Hts. at any time. Lyndhurst Municipal Court is required to carry the necessary liability insurance before the city will participate.
Detour on Highland Rd.
Major improvements are currently being done on Highland Road to Bishop Road. Scheduled completion date is October 1982.
These improvements include underground telephone and electric wires, culvert repair, and concrete resurfacing. Highland Road is open for local passage.
Fire Department Annual Report
Noteworthy observations, in the Annual Report include
(1)	Total monetary losses due to fire were down considerably over 1980, (2) a large percentage of Rescue Squad runs involved non-residents and (3) no gunshot incidents were recorded for 1981.
Public Hearing
The Council of the City of Richmond Heights held a public hearing on possible uses of federal revenue sharing funds., Citizens of Richmond Heights' were invited to attend the public hearing and provide written and oral comments and suggestions regarding possible uses of funds amounting to $48,821.00. This figure represents' funds expected to be received this year.
Block Grants
This year Community Block Grant funds will be used to install air-conditioning in the City Lodge and curb ramps for the handicapped on - all major intersections..
Labor-Management
Procedures
Ordinance 46-82 passed by Council, established Labor-Management Committees and Grievance Procedures for resolution of disputes and recommendations for improvement in the work environment. This was enacted to pro-wide an- avenue for peaceful solutions to disputes between police, fire and service de-
partment employees and the city.
Concerts in the Park
Band concerts will resume in the Community park this summer; signs will be posted announcing the dates. Future events include the U.S. Air Force Band and a theatre-in-the-round.
New Medical Building on Chardon
Council approved variances for the proposed medical building across from the Richmond Hts. Hospital. These variances include set-back, landscaping and parking requirements.
As Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Committee,
I actively supported the construction of this new building. My cost-benefit study revealed that the benefits offset the costs. Some benefits include:
(1)	Employment for construction, electrical and related support personnel for the construction industry.
(2)	Increase the City Tax Duplicate. Expected annual revenue to the City and schools total approximately $75,000
(3)	Employment of approximately 25 support personnel and 8 new specialists.
(4)	Retain doctors at Richmond Hts. Hospital by providing office space dose by.
(5)	Catalyst for re-development of Ward 1 by replacing existing structure which is in a deplorable condition. The office building will contain 25 offices, an in-house pharmacy, 137 parking spaces and cost approximately $1,900,000 to be financed by industrial revenue bonds.
It is important that Richmond Hts. provide an opto-mistic stance to developers seeking to develop properly zoned land in Richmond Hts.
I strongly believe that Richmond Hts. must move forward in order to meet future needs of the citizens without increased taxation.

On Sunday, August 22nd, the Collinwood Slovenian Home will hold their Annual Homecoming event. The festivities will be kicked off by-the United Slovenian Society Band leading a parade through the streets of Collinwood. The parade will form at St. Mary’s Church parking lot and end at the Collinwood Slovenian Home. The United Slovenian Society band will begin the entertainment for the day with a concert. Entertainment for the rest of the day and into the evening will be provided by polka bands, button box groups' and accordion players. It will be an all day affair with good food, drinks and plenty of good music.
Part of the tradition of this homecoming event is the honoring of someone who has contributed to' the polka field. This year the Collinwood Home’s choice is Joe Lasic.ky-
Joe was born on January 24, 1924 in.Forest City, Pennsylvania. He was the son of a Slovenian mother — Rose Zul-ler and a Polish father — Frank Lasicky. At the age of five he moved to Cleveland with his parents and grew up in the Collinwood area around Holmes Avbnue. His career in music began at the early age of fifteen, when he played in a band with Al Terček. He played in this band until he joined Uncle Sam in the service in 1942, when he returned from the service in 1945 he started his own band and was fortunate enough to get a recording contract with Mercury Records in 1949.
Having gained much popularity, his band played at all the halls and night spots in and around Cleveland. He and the band also did radio broadcasts and appeared on local television shows. They also entertained out of town appearing in Pennsylvania, Illinois, Wisconsin / and New York.
One of his favorite recordings, which he dedicated to the town in Which he was born, was -the “Forest City Polka” and his recording of “The K.S.K.J. Polka” in honor of 'the .lodg'd in which his Uncle Joe Zaller was Supreme President. He had the honor of playing’ at Prank Yanko-vich’s first wedding and Frank Yankovic chauffcured and played at.Joe’s wedding.
He was married to Fay Poc-kar in 1948 and their wedding reception was held at the Col-liffwood Slovenian Home, this annual Homecoming event will be a special one to Joe as he is being honored as Collin-wood’s Polka Man of the Year at the same place where he was married 36’ years ago.
Joe dropped out of the polka scene in 1956, from 1959-1.969' he owned a tavern and played the accordion-cord-o-vox on weekends. He presently is employed by National

Acme and is looking forward to retirement in a few years. Although no longer his life’s work, Joe continues to play at home'when having parties end occasionally at jam sessions. He has done much in his; music career to promete polka music and is greatly deserving of this honor.

Well, it’s summer again! Time for the 3rd annual Slovenian Sports Club Summer “Sportsfest” on Sunday, Aug. 8 at Slovenska Pristava, in Geneva, Ohio.
This year’s picnic is an invitation to all to engage in some good competition a-mong fellow Slovenians. In so doing, the Club is providing many different games like balinca, accuracy throw, golf chip shot and even games for little kids. But the spotlight shines, as always, on the Superteams III competition.
The Superteams competition consists of teams composed of 7 members (two of whom must be girls) in a team, vieing for the coveted trophies. Each team is judged by its performance in the many different,., often hilarious events. This event is guaranteed to please spectator and participant alike.
The scene is familiar. The sun is hot and the competition is tight It’s the infamous sports klub obstacle course, the moment of truth, and the perennial determinant of the champion super team.

In addition to the above medicines which are found in ointments/suppositories to be applied directly to hemorrhoids, there are other products which prevent aggravation of existing hemorrhoids. The stoolsofteners (docusate) and laxatives are effective in this regard. Increasing the amount of fiber in the diet may' be effective and often eliminates the need for laxatives. Recently introduced hydrocortisone	as an
over-the-counter drug has given a new tool to self-medi-cated hemorrhoid sufferers. It also, reduces swelling and inflammation.
Self-care of hemorrhoids is not always wise, however. Most authorities agree that a physician should be contacted when there is rectal bleeding, protrusion or seepage associated with hemorrhoids.

Having worked at chain stores, the owner and employees prefer the personal, family-type store they now operate. They are on a first name basis with almost all of their patient-customers.
“We’re very willing to take time with patients, consulting with them and educating them,” explains Kuhar. These services are extended to non-customers as well.
The grounds surrounding the Slovene Home for the Aged in Cleveland, Ohio, have been a scene of much activity since the ground-breaking for the new addition of the facility in September of 1981.
Friends of the Home have responded generously to the appeal of the Trustees for financial help.

Rep. Ronald J. Šuster, D-Euclid, announced release by the Ohio Controlling Board of $97,000 to finance partial clean-up of the radium-contamination discovered May 1 by Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Ski-Ijan of Euclid.
On May 10, Controlling Board action, initiated by Rep. Šuster, resulted in the allocation of $100,000 for preliminary studies and clean-up. Of that amount, the $3,000 expended by the Ohio Department of Health for analysis of the contaminated area indicates that the full clean-up cost will be approximately $260,000.
“The Controlling Board appropriated funds 10 days after the discovery of the radium. The Department of Health has taken 2% months to spend $3,000, only to discover that the $100,000 originally appropriated was insufficient,” said Šuster. “For 2V2 months, the Skiljans have lived with uncertainty and fear. The Dept, of Health has solicited bids which opened on July 26 for removal of the contamination. Stage one of the project will be financed by the remaining $97,000 and will address the above-ground contamination. The Department of Health has advised that possible ingestion of the radium poisoning represents the greatest potential hazzard. The second stage will remove the below-ground contamination, comprising approximately of 4,000 cubic feet of contaminated soil and representing the most expensive aspect of the clean-up project.
The US Environmental Protection Agency has been approached to finance the second stage. The Midwest regional office of the US EPA has recommended approval of the Skiljan project to the Washington EPA office. If as anticipated, the US EPA accepts the project, the cleanup project’s second stage can commence in 4-5 months.

Sister Georgine, who was at one time principal of Mother of God, is now on that school’s staff. A graduate of DePaul University, Sister Georgine taught in elementary schools in the Chicago area and in southern Colorado, including At. Mary’s, Pueblo, and was principal of four schools. She is the sister of Mrs. Peter (Frances) Keller of North Chicago and Michael Hodnik of Waukegan.
Sister Mary Alice also earned her degree at DePaul University and served three years as recording treasurer of Catholic Primary Teachers Association in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Her teaching assignments were mainly in the Chicago, though she taught eight years fia’ Colorado schools, including St. Mary’s, Pueblo. Her family include August Setnicar of North Chicago, Mrs. Joseph (Johanna) Mesec and Albert Setnicar of Waukegan, Reverend Matthew Setnicar of Greenfield, Wisconsin, and Frances Setnicar of Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Sister Mary Alice is currently teaching at St. Hilary Parish in Chicago where parishioners and school children feted her in late spring. IF Matthew A. Kastelic, a re-r sideht of Wickliffe, Ohio for over 30 years, and formerly of the Collinwood area, died suddenly early Aug. 3 at the Cleveland Stadium where he was employed as an usher in charge of the press-box area.
He was the husband of Margaret (nee Zorichak). Mr. Kastelic was the father of Matthew, Kathleen (Kathy) Norton (Mrs. Lawrence) of Canton, Ohio, and Sue Bina (Mrs. Timothy); grandfather of Jennifer and Lauren Norton. He was the brother of Alice Oipalich (Cape Coral, Fla.), Josephine Klemenčič, and Dorothy Urbancich, William (dec.), and Ludwig (dec.).
• He was employed by the New York Central Railroad for 49 years. Presently he was employed by the Cleveland Indians Baseball Co. Mr. Kastelic was loved by the various sports reporters and was lauded in the Plain Dealer by sports editor Hal Lebo-vitz, and on radio by Nev Chandler and Herb Score and television by Joe Tait upon hearing the shocking news of his death. They all praised his happy and friendly personality.
He was a member of AMLA Eastern Stars No. 51 for 53 years and was honored as a 50-year member at a banquet. Mr. Kastelic was also a 42 year member of KSKJ lodge No. 169, and Collinwood Pensioners Club.
Grdina Funeral home is in charge of arrangements. A funeral Mass will be held today at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10 a.m. and burial at All Souls Cemetery. ———o---------------

Augusta Kosich (nee Jež), age 81 years, died suddenly at her home at 15425 Waterloo Road, of a heart attack. In May she had surgery for implantation of a pacemaker.
She was widowed; her husband, Frank, Sr., died in 1956. She was the mother of Frank; mother-in-law of June; grandmother of Melanie (Boston, Mass.), and Deborah (Denver, Colo.).

With her husband and son she came to the United States in 1925. In 1926 her husband, a talented stone carver, founded Carst Memorials Co. at the Waterloo address where he made cemetery monuments. Mrs. Kosich worked with him. His son, Frank, took over the management of the business upon the death of his father.
At her own request all funeral services were private. Interment was in the family lot at Lakeview Cemetery.

JOHN KAMALIC
After a long illness, Mr. John Kamalic passed away July 20, at 1:35 p.m. at Euclid General Hospital. He was born on Jan. 27. 1912 at Rudolmje, Gorinsko in Slovenia, Yugoslavia.
He leaves behind his wife, Vicky (nee Franetič), who was previously married to Mr. Espinoza. •
A daughter, Joann Naylor, resides in Alaska and a son John Kamalic lives in Cleveland. There are also 2 step sons, Herman and Mark Espinoza and their wives Christa and Alexa and their 4 children.
Mr. Kamalic also leaves behind 2 sisters, Josephine Ulcar and Maria Skcfijanc, both of Slovenia. Also in Slovenia are his cousins. Dr. Vida Rojc. Nada Rojc, Minka Role, Stana Rojc, and Sophia Kočar. Many friends and relatives were left in Yugoslavia.
Funeral Mass v/as Fridav, July 23, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Felicitas Church with interment in All Souls Cemetery.
Friends called at the San-kovic-Johnston Funeral Home, 15314 Macauley Ave. (Corner of E. 152 and Lake Shore Elvd.).
Family requests that contributions be made to The Slovenian Home for the Aged or to the charity of your choice.
Mr. Kamalic was a,member of SDŽ No. 17 and Club Ljub-lana.

MARY ISKRA
Mray Iskra (nee Sedej), age 71, of 18814 Mohawk Ave., Cleveland, passed away at
Euclid General Hospital on July 10th, after a two week illness.
She was beloved wife of Frank (with whom she celebrated their 48th: anniversary of their marriage), dear aunt to Ernie Tibjash (Euclid); and Art Tibyash (Willoughby); dear aunt and great aunt; sister of Frank Sedej (Yugoslavia).
She was born at Notranje gorice, Brezovica, Ljubljana, Slovenia. She came to Cleveland in 1927. Soon after, she obtained employment as a seamstress at Glen-Martin Aeroplane Co. sewing fabrics on the wings of the planes when they were constructed. The plant was located at the site of the present Gould Co. on St. Clair Ave.
For 26 years she was employed as Housekeeper for the family of Dr. Wm. Renner in Bratenahl.
She was a member of American Mutual Life Ass’n. No. 8; American Fraternal Union No. 173; Progressive Slovene WTo-men of America No. 3; Slovenian Womens Union No. 14, where she was treasi; Euclid Pensioners; and the Slovene Home for the Aged Auxiliary where she devoted many volunteer hours helping at the Slovene Home for the Aged.
Friends called at Zele Memorial Chapel, 458 East 152nd Street, where services were held Tuesday, July 13 at 8:45 a.m. and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 18022 Neff Rd. at 9:39 AM. Interment All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, Ohio.

MARY PERUSEK
Mary Pefusek (nee Bra-dish), age 73, passed away at Euclid General Hospital after being a patient for two and a half weeks. She died July 12.
Her husband, Joseph Peru-sek died in 1976. He retired from Watkins and Bing Furniture Company.
Mrs. Mary Perusek is survived by her children: Mrs. Loren (Dolores) Shaw and Robert J. Perusek. She was the grandmother of 6 and great grandmother of 1. She was the sister of Ann Brai-dich; Frances Bradish and the following deceased: Anthony Bradish, Katherine Sporcic, and Joseph Bradish.
The Funeral Mass was Wednesday, July 14 at St. Robert’s Church at 9:30 a.m. Interment was at All Souls Cemetery.
Grdina Funeral Home, 17010 Lake Shore Blvd., was in charge of arrangements.

Two Local Students Win Scholarships
The Cleveland High School and Academy Lay Teachers Association (CHALTA) has awarded ten $100 scholarships to incoming ninth grade students at the ten diocesan-owned high schools.
The awards were based on student achievement, teacher recommendations, and short essays written by the students on why they believe in Catholic education.

IIALLIE MARIE PINTO
Hallie Marie Pinto (nee Fultz), age 83, of 448 Buffalo Road, Harbor Creek, Penna., died of cancer early Sunday morning, July 11th, at Cleveland Clinic Hospital after a long illness.
She was widow of Wm. Parker and E. Pinto. Mrs. Pinto was born in Rushville, Indiana. Her parents were John Fultz and Docie-Jane Skinner Fultz, both deceased. Docie was a second cousin of Abraham Lincoln. In 1919 Mrs. Pinto married William Parker and they moved to Penna. She was widowed and she went to work at General Electric Co. (Erie Div.) as a packer, retiring in 1964.
She was the mother of Mrs. Frank (Jean) Benedict (with whom she lived since May of this year); and,George Parker; grandmother of Mrs. Ronald (Bonnie) Zele (Concord, O.); Cheryl Moutmrd (Eastlake, O.), Terrence Parker (Denver, Colorado), and Jeffrey Parker (Cleveland, Ohio); great grandmother of 3; sister of Ira (deceased).
She was taken to Erie, Pa. where services were held Wednesday, July 14. Interment was in the family graves in East Hill Cemetery, Rushville, Indiana.
Zele Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
EMILY MAHNE
Emily J. Mahne died at St. Vincent Charity Hospital early Thursday morning, July 29 after a long illness.
She was a long time resident of the St. Clair area and worked many years for the Cleveland Credit Bureau. Emily was the daughter of John and Mary (nee Janezic) both deceased; dear sister of John (S.C.) and Christine Widmar (Mich.); and beloved aunt.
She had been a resident of the St. Clair area all her life, belonging to various community activities. For years she was a member of the Maccabees and belonged to the drill team, a member of Glasbena Matica chorus, being a, fine singer and actress, performing in quite a number of the opera presentations and concerts as a soloist, a member of the No. 25 Slovenian Women’s Union, being the captain of the drill team, and a member of St. Cecilia’s lodge No. 37 AMLA.
Services were Tuesday, Aug.
3 at the Zak Funeral Home, 6016 St. CJair Ave. Funeral Mass 9:30 a.m. St. Vitus Church. Interment All Souls Cemetery.............
Cecelia Kosir graduated
from the eighth grade of St. Vitus School and will attend Villa Angela Academy in the fall. She is one of five children of John and Ivana Kosir, 1045 E. 61 St., Cleveland, OH 44103.

The St. Vitus Summer Fes- If tival held in mid-July this jj year was a resounding sue- jj cess. A conservative estimate of 5-6 thousand people attended the event.
This year’s festival was perhaps the most creative, colorful, and well organized since the 1970’s. New outside booths, well-cooked dinners and krofe, daily entertainment, a dunk-dolly, tours of St. Vitus Church/Rectory, bingo, plus many other activities offered a wide variety of enjoyment for every age group.
The Festival Committee wishes to express its deepest thanks to all volunteers who, without their time and talents, made this event something to talk about and enjoy. The most reassuring sign of the festival was the outstanding cooperation of all age groups of volunteers and the unity toward one goal: raising funds to meet the many human needs in St. Vitus Parish.
