Vrjel ni slepoti in nezmotljivosti strankinega vodstva. "Jaz sem vstajenje i« življenje. Kdor v me veruje, ,bo živel, če ravno umrje." ST; MARY'S DAY Samuel L. Clemens, under the pen name, of Mark Twain, gained worldwide fame ;and a literary reputation that grows brighter through the years. Tom Sttwyer and Huckleberry Finn .are American Traditions . . as American as apple pie or corn bread. This pair of Missouri rascals are the most famous boys in American literature. When Mark Twain wrote his introdue thinking that the Catholic Church sett up Her own rules in the game of serving God; and than when playing according to these rules becomes tiresome, She may change the rules tc suit the players. Ah, no! The Catholic Church did not found Herself. She did net organize Herself make up Her creed and forms of morality—and ther. choose Jesus Christ to be a sort oi honorary Chaplain. It was the other way around. "You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you." Truth and power and authority in the Church comes from the top down,"not from the bottom up. Bishops an<2 priests are not invited tc Dioceses anc parishes to preach what is easiest for the people to hear. They are sent to preach the Truth, and this is the jiea test safeguard and source of consolation tc all Catholic people; and those who are of the Truth will hear the Truth. If the Church teaches that something is 'wrong, it is not because a certain number of Her members arbitrarily decided up on it (like a political party decides upon the planks in Its political platform before elections) No, it's because Jesus Christ, our God, our infinitely wise and good God, sale it was wrong. And if It's wrong foi one, it's wrong for another, with nc respect had for persons. As a great convert once remarked, "Henry VIII for his second marriage, went to lean hiš arm on the cushions of Pope Leo, and found he struck his elbow on the Reck of Peter." It was a showdown for the Catholic Church. The Pope knew that if a dispensation for di- tion tc Tcm Sawyer in 1876, he could vorce could be granted Henry VIII not have known how true these words the Catholic Church in England would would be :• | remain unharmed; and he also knew "Although my book is intended, that if Henry broke away, he would mainly for the entertainment ©f boys, take Catholic England with him. Their privileges which consist of playing pool and hockey in the Portable, were discontinued for one day. After some Sherlock Holmes detective work the case was solved. The solution? Mi-. Urbas, church janitor, had the ball in the school base-' ment. Was he having fun? Afterthought: Jchn Pezdirtz, Whitey Kaporc, "Edcliu" Valencic, Tony Rut-tar and "Mayor of the Town", "Eggs" Grosel suffered most from this abolishment of privileges. It i;; becoming more and more common that Catholics and non-Catholics have a peculiar idea about dispensations granted by the Church. The idea seems to be that if you know some influential priest and can explain your case well enough to him and so gain his sympathy, he can obtain a dispensation for you from the law that universally binds other people. This comes especially Hi matters concerning mar- But it is wrong to think that the Church is primarily concerned with teaching "Don'ts". In passing along the highways, you see that at dangerous places in the road you are protected by strong steel fences, and you find blinking danger signals at bad crossings. Yet nobody accuses the highway commission of constricting freedom of driving and making life miserable by slowing us down at dangerous curves. The Church, like the road commission, is interested only in keeping traffic moving, but in keeping it moving SAFELY. The business of going to heaven is not quite as easy as falling; off a , log. We need help and we need guidance, The Church will bfe here until the end of the world to see that all men have this help and this guidance. PEN SKETCH No doubt, you are acquainted with or else have heard of this striking personality, Agnes Kosec- If you haven't met her as yet, here is a brief sketch that will make you want to meet her very soon. She sure is one wonderful person who is liked by all because of her alluring disposition. With her dark brown hair and starry eyes of green, together with her charming smile, she can win pver your friendship immediately, without a ' single word spoken. As for her activity, here is just a little picture. She is President cf the Orels, Captain q{ the St. Vitus Girl's League and a very faithful member of the Baraga Olee Club. She is always very co-operative when it comes to offering help. As for sports, she enjoys dancing, skating and bowling. When it comes to hobbies, you can see- her either painting a picture or else playing a tune on the piano. Oh yes, she is a very fond lover of song and takes the Alto part in the BGC Trie. Her favorite song is "Star Dust". Food is also one of her. weaknesses, especially when it, comes to Breaded Veal and French Fries. She attended St. Vitus School and then continued on through Jane Ad dams Vocational Sohooli. After graduation she began working at Goodman's, Inc., where she is still employed as a Power Machine operator. Her friendship is really enjoyed by everyone, especially by her close friends, Frances Zakrajsek, ' Millie Erbeznik. and Mary Alice Klemencic. Of course there is so much more to be said about her that pages and pages could be written without an effort, but due to space it cannot be done. Although, I'm sure this will make you want to become acquaintea with her sooner. i-o- Engagements Mr. and Mrs. John Tomazic of 16821 Grovewood Ave., announce the engagement of theri daughter, Helen J.
