V avtomobilu so bile pripravljene puške in radio aparat. Piše "The Cleveland Press". DOPISI . m,.................. —-,..,...........- ......................................... ....... ..» V nedeljo, dne 15. februarja, I sem imel priliko prisostvovati opereti "Darinka," katero so v prizor ili pevci in pevke zbora Ilirije. Opereto Darinka je spisal in uglasbil g. Josip Lavtižar; je to krasno delo v treh dejanjih. Josip Debeljak in Louis Ižanec. — Jezus, Marija! . . morate me skriti. . . zasledovalci so mi za petami. V gozdu tem prokletim satanom ne uidem več. . . kakor Indijanci so šli za mojim sledom in ko sem dosegel cesto, sem se moral držati na njej ali tesno ob njej. Toda morda so že zopet tik za menoj. Vsaka minuta me lahko spravi v njihove roke. In k meni hočete, človek?! Saj me bo še končala! — Nazaj, vi! — je zavpila razjarjena ženščina, ko je hotel Edgeworth pomirjajoče stopiti k nji. — Nazaj! Takoj grem po sodnika — sodnik Dayton naj pride namudoma sem! In pa konstablerja! Tam-le so njene stvari. . . Takoj jih mora razve-zati! Bill in Blackfoot sta natihem smeje opazovala ves prizor. . , Mrs. ... Good bye! Ognjeni plameni so ravno že škodoželjno oblizavali streho. Zalka! O moje dete! Francek! . . . Štefan, pojdi, pojdi! Nemara se da še kaj rešiti." "Zalka in otrok sta že zdavnej na varnem v votlini na špiku," je kričal možek in obenem prijel Franceta za roko ter ga zadrževal. He also plays the principal role of Jesus Christ in the production. In making preparations, Mr. Oblak has been very fortunate in obtaining the services of a competent staff of technicians whose work augurs well for the success of the presentation. Mr. Božidar Jakac, whose work in the field of art needs no introduction, designed and painted the scenery. A splendid piece of work, they furnish brilliant background'for the dramatic work of the artists. Mr. Frank Perme handled the purely mechanical end of the props, in a manner which brands him at once as a master technician. Especially striking are his massive pillards which tower 14 feet above the stage level, and yet can be lowered to a convenient handling height of six feet, by a simple twist of the wrist. So compact, simple and light are his settings that they will save two hours of shifting and can be easily stored and moved away. Mr. Frank Tekautz is the electrician. His bold masterful handling of light and shadows trans- forms each setting into a living picture. He is also chairman of the Passion Players. Mrs. Mary Hochevar, secretary, handles all the varied clerical duties in a capable manner. Nc easy work, I assure you, taking care of 150 actors, tickets etc. Miss Sophie Orazem, head usher is in charge of a group of beautiful girls who will seat the patrons. She assures us Earl Carroll had nothing to do in their selection, although a person is inclined to think so after seeing them. Systematic training and rehearsing of the usheretes iwll enable all to be seated in a minimum amount of time. Taken all in all, this year's production of the Passion Play promises to surpass even the group's premier offering. Tickets are. now on sale at Kushlan's Confectionery. -o- L O ST All St. Vitus' Graduates of Classes 1920 to 1925, Inclusive, Asked to Attend Important Meeting- in Old School Hall at 8:15 The first definite step in the American Home Junior's plan for a monster St. Vitus' class reunion will take place Monday evening when a meeting of all those interested in the project, will be held in the old school hall at 8:15. All St. Vitus' graduates of the classes of 1920 to 1925 inclusive, who are willing to serve on a committee for making necessary arrangement?, are cordially invited to attend and lend their support to the movement. ---* It is hoped enough will be present, so that it will be possible to elect temporary alumni officers for each individual class, who will then proceed making final arrangements for the reunion of their own particular group. These class officers will likewise serve on the general committee, In this way it is hoped each class will bo able to conduct its own reunion, with the general committee aiding. If the plan works out along this basis, it would be possible to make provision for a similar reunion every year or every other year. The Rev. B. J. Ponikvar. pastor ol St. Vitus, has given his sanction to the movement and promises the committee all possible cooperation. Toward this end, he will attend the meeting as will the Rev. A. Andrey, assistant, Since the idea was first proposed by Cy Verbic '21, this paper has rt-ceived many letters from graduates giving their ideas and plans for the reunion. It is hoped, and expected, all those who have written regarding the reunion will be present at the meeting Monday night so that all ideas and plans can be discussed. A good start is half the battle. Make the coming meeting a success by being present. This means you! -O- The Question Column Two heads are better than one and two lodges are better than one, especially when it comes 'to social affairs. At least so think the Modern Crusaders, No. 45 SDZ and the Eastern Stars, No. 51 SDZ. Last year the two combined and threw a big dancc, it was a huge success. Now they have joined forces once more and for the same reason. This latest duo-backed venture is a dance at the Slovenian Working-men's Home, Waterloo Rd., Sunday evening, Feb. 22—George Washington's birthday. Committees from both gi'oups are hard at work making all the final arrangements and assure us the advance ticket sale indicates a record crowd, with a Rood time for all. The Four Harmony Aces, popular entertainers are scheduled to supply the music for the occasion. They will lose no time in getting under way as dancing will start promptly at 7:30. ■-0- PAGING TARZAN! Like all public institutions our National Homes are subject to criticism. Today we present a few opinions in answer to our question, "What do you think of our Slovenian National Homes?" Frank Bizjak (E. 74th St.): "They're alright, they at least furnish the neighborhood with one good dance hall." Joseph Struna (Collinwood): "They fulfill a long wanted need for community gatherings." Marie Fortuna (Collinwood): "I don't go to them much, so I can't say anything about them." Lcuis Gabrijel (E. 60th St.): "Well, there's no getting away from it, they sure are a great help to the clubs of the neighborhood." John Adamič (E. 60th St.): "Yes, I believe our National Homes are of great benefit to the young folks of this neighborhood." Josephine Birtieli (E. 40th St.): "I don't go to them much, so I really can't say anything. From the little I've heard of them I guess they're alright." Frances Jurca (E. 60th St.): "They're managed alright. I think. Of course, we don't know much about them. But they're all neat and clean, and have good dance floors." And that then, finishes up all we have to say for today. However, as the question of our National Homes has brought about so many answers and ideas we'll continue It through to next week. In the meantime? Just what do you think about it all? Some of the Soys on the road now are those I out of work, others are there because of ill health, and a few like myself are there because we like it. "There's one man though, a prominent business man from Boston, ; whom I meet every year, and he I takes to road one month each year j as a hobby. He gets into old clothes, and he walks, rides and begs, maybe sometimes works just like the rest of us. He forgets all about his business. he says, and when he gets back ho feels like a new man." "Don't you think your life is sort ,of worthless though? You are not really doing anything for society." I could tell by the way he stroked 'his hair, rubbed his chin that he did not like the accusation for he said: "I think you are wrong. We fellows don't harm society. We are a blessing to it. We're not bootleggers, and thirsty, and cold, but you also get used to everything. I'm not, dead yet, and I've been leading this life for 28 years." He's 45 years old, I figured, and questioned him further. , "Don't you, sometimes, long for a home, a fireplace, a comfortable chair, books and friends?" "No, because ■ I would get tired of the same home, furniture, books and embezzelers, bigamists or murderers, but your society people are. That's what you get for living in society. Everything is complicated. We boys are never accused of all of those crimes, because we are not interested. We live a simple life, until we die and then only, do we let you worry about our bones. And hear that science and medicine can "make good use of bones." "Where do you usually get your clothes and food?" was my next question. He looked at his overcoat before answering. It was quite good appearing. "Well, I did do some work for it. I chopped several cords of wood and carried out ashes, down in Niles, O. Sometimes, if I get paid for the odd jobs I do for .people, I buy my food until I am 'broke,' and then T beg again like I am doing today. Of course, I don't always have such good luck. Very often people threaten me with their dogs and the police, and since I don't like to meet either one, I leave their doors in a hurry." "Mr. Gentleman Tramp," I finally said, "I don't sympathize with you. You are so strong, healthful, even intelligent appearing that it is a shame that you should be wasting your life in such a menial way." My chiding meant nothing to him. for he responded: "We all have a right to lead our own lives, haven't we? And as long as we arc happy, what does it matter, how? I'm happy." That was all, and witli an expression or gratitude he wandered out of sight, while I wandered into thought. Who was he; he was not an ordinary tramp. Maybe he was a musician of repute, or maybe he himself was the Boston business man, and then again, maybe he was just "kidding" me. But. no, that could not be. 11« was a "gentleman, tmup.' "Schoolgirl Complexion" Is Envy ol' All the Young Ladies There is one young man whom the girls especially envy. The victim oi this jealousy is Frank Gerchcr, who possesses that "school girl complexion." His rosy cheeks make him the target for copious questions as how he keeps them. And the poor young man amused at times, embarrassed at others, replies that he does no; know and neither does he care. Just like a man. -O- FAREWELL PARTY Junior Holy Name Society of St. Mary's Staging Membership Drive "In the first few weeks of the drive for an increased membership, we have already added ten new names to the roster of our organization," said Charles Tercek, recently elected president of the Junior Holy Name Society of St. Mary's parish, Collinwood, at the meeting held Monday evening, Feb. 16. This report was received most favorably by all members present, who promised to continue the drive with even more vigor. One of the important features cf the meeting was a review of the events and activities which had helped to make the past year a great success. A hearty welcome was extended to the new inembers last Thursday evening, Feb. 12, at the Valentine party and rally sponsored jointly by the Junior Holy Name Society and the Young Ladies Sodality. Several vaud-ville skits put on by the members, in addition to various contests comprised the entertainment of the evening. The large attendance at both the party and at the meeting assures the success of any future social affairs which may be held under the aus-picies of these two organizations. -0- LECTURES AT LIBRARY Gccrgc Washington Bowling Team and Rooters Fete Marie Rauh There's nothing in this world liKo appreciation. Miss Marie Rauh has been one of the stanches-1 rooters of the George Washington teams, both on the alleys and the hardwood courts. REPORTER The American Home Junior is pleased to announce Uiat Mr. Anthony Somrack Jr. has been added to the staff of the paper and will take care of all Collinwood news for the sheet. We kindly ask the lodges and clubs of Collinwood to recognize Sir. Somrack as a member of the staff of this paper and give him all possible cooperation. A fair crowd attended the thud beminar last Wednesday evening. Mr. Ivan Zornian, Slovenian poet, was the speaker of the evening and his topic, "Slovenian Literature and Musical Composition." The male portion of the audience consisted of Dr. Kern, Božidar Jakac, Frank Suhadolnik and this scrivener. Mr. Zorman certainly has the knack of holding the attention of his audience. We didn't even hear any of the. fashionable coughs. His lecture actually lasted one hour and a half, but it seemed like 13 minutes. French, German and other nationalities were represented at the seminar. A pleasant surprise was the playing and singing of Slovenian folk songs by Mr. Zorman. We almost joined in the chorus. Delicious cherry strudel was served after the lecture. Someday I'll learn the art of balancing a tea cup on my knee without apeparing self-conscious. Mrs. Janko N. Rogelj was hostess. Cinderella Jane was there and did appear surprised when someone introduced us. We clid pass an uu-amimous resolution that some day this staff is going to get acquainted, thereby saving considerable embarrassment. _ The date of the next and final seminar was announced. It will be Friday, Feb. 27, and will feature Mr. Anton SubelJ in a series ol Slovenian lolliaungs. The Gentleman Tramp by Cinderella June v\v\wv\\v\\v\wwv\v\\\wv»wv\vw\ The front doorbell rang and the caller was neither a bill collector nor ' a salesman, but instead, a tramp. "Could a gentleman trouble you for a bite to eat?" he asked as he politely took off his shabby hat and crin-klcd it in his hand. Can you imagine that—I' thought, a tramp calling himself a "gentleman." That was interesting. All the tramps that came to our home always ■ rapped at the back door, but this one dared to come to the front door, and above all, he called himself a "gentleman." I directed him to go to the back door, and told hjm he would be taken care of. A few minuses later he was enjoying a big breakfast, but I was bound that this 'gentleman tramp" would not get his meal for nothing, so I porceded to "third degree" him. "I suppose you are just another poor man out of work, aren't you?" I asked. "Well, no, I would not say that, because I never worked much before this depression." "Then, do you mean to tell me you are only a tramp?" I continued a little excited. "You can call mc that if you wish, but I call it my profession. I had a calling for it. I'm a restless sort of fellow. I like changes. I don't like the same things all the time." "How long have you been a tramp?" "Since I was 17. I ran away from school. My uncle wanted me to be a musician, but I didn't care for public life. I love music though. I always carry this with me," and he produced a Hohner harmonica. "Oil. won't you play a tunc?" I begged. "Sure." lie said as he started "Ne- i politan Nights," "Beethoven's Minuet^ in G" and "Turkey in the Straw" followed. "I usually play myself to sleep," he added. "But where do you sleep?" "Anywhere—most often in the open, that is in summer, but in the winter, in freight cars, empty homes, and sometimes when I'm1 in Cleveland, I i stay at the Wayfarer's Lodge." "Do yuu really, liku your life?" Voice From the Stands By EDDIE KOVACIC FRANK DOLJACK By way of personal interviewing we journeyed to 1404 F.. 4!iUi St. to hear what Frankie "Fat" Doljack had to say before leaving for the Detroit sprint? training camp ut Sacramento, Calirornla, next. Thursday, Feb. 25. We are Informed he will, arrive at his destination on the first of March, all set for action and the tapering process. The latter not of necessity as he weighs but 180 pounds and is not lugging any excess avoii-dupois, but to sharpen the old optics and swing. "Doley,' 'as he is sometimes called, has closeted a stack of writeups from local, Detroit, New York and Wheel-in« newspapers that would turn the head of an ordinary youngster, but not he, as he s-till maintains the same poise as prior to his success. Started With Schneiders His scrapbook-s trace his climb from the bottom to the top of the national pastime. After playing with the Schneider Sports and the St. Clair Sweet Shoppes in the lower divisions of the C. A. B. A. A., he jumped into B with the Fairplays. In 1927 he literally leaped into the O. and P. League (not Hippo's), with the Cleveland Tellings, having as his first pro manager, the prominent Doik Novari'io. Prank »was shipped to Evansville, a member of the Three I League, the following year, but did not stay as he finished the season with Fort Smith (one week) and Canton of the Central League. During all this time he was rapidly improving both in the field and at the plate, although he was always dangerous in the batter's box. Goes to Wheeling Finally in 1029 he was sent to Wheeling in the Mid-Atlantic League, where he earned his spurs as a big-leaguer. His first season there was rather mediocre, due to a fallacy in his eyesight. This was later removed and last year he enjoyed thj best season of his brief baseball career. Gets Three Records While with the Stogies in 1930, h s became recognized as the league's greatest, all-around player. He established three league records and tied one by the time the curtain was brought down in September. Doljack compiled a neat .391 to pace all the other hitsmiths in the loop. He garnered the most hits, getting 176 for a total of 288 bases, which was also a high, and tied for doubles with 41. Not content with that he blasted out 14 three baggers and brought in lOli runs to come third in both these departments. Naturally this record did not escape the attention of big league scouts, and he was flooded with offers from Cleveland, New York Yankees, Brooklyn and the Tigers. It's history that he signed with the latter nine ■ and joined them for the last mdfith of their campaign. Plays in 15 Games Some of t lie highlights of his first month in the big leagues are: Played in 15 games; got three homers, oris of them winning a 4 to 0 game for the Bengals against the champion Athletics; laced out seven doubles, among his conglomeration of baso blows. One of the Detroit Times' scribes relates of an incident concerning Frank's throwing arm that gives the Slovenian lad a big boost, Blue Spoils Record. It happened when Firstbaseman Blue of St. Louis raced home from third ou a sacrifice fly to Rightfleki-er Doljack. A bullet throw homa. just a trifle wide, was not sufficient for the elusive Blue who evaded the catcher's outstratched hands and scored. The scribe commented this was the first time a runner had scored from third on a hit to Doljack, and that Blue had spoiled an immaculate record without being aware of the fact. Joe Kuhel, Too If Frankie sticks the year out with the Tigers, which we have faith in his doing, he will be the second Slovenian big leaguer in action during the year, as Joe Kuhel is certain to stay with the Washington Senators. -o- CHOPPERS AFTER TITLE SOKOLS BEAT ST. What do you say, Stan? 01 her Upsets Show Pioneers Sweeping Young Men and Clairwoods Taking Two From Sokols, While Tree Choppers Drop One to Lowly Orels Reversing last week's sum up of the Inter-Lodge scores, the four leaders took it on the nose from the underdogs with tiic George Washington« the only quintet to win their series among the topnotchers, hut they lost one to the last place Orels to provide a mild upset. The two most outstanding surprises of the current year occurred when the Pioneers and the Comrades swept over the SYMC and the Spartans, taking all six games from the lop-notchers. In losing all three the Spartans allowed the George Washington to share the league lead with them. Comrades Crack 2962 *-----— Opening with smashing 1029 to cop the first filt, the Comrades went ahead and gathered 959 and 974 in the next two, to capture third place in team high with 2362. Their first game also gave them fifth place in single game event. Three of the winners rolled in the 000 class, B. Alich again showing the way with 637, Smole with 627 and Frank Fifolt with 614. For the powerful Spartans, Charles Wohlgemuth and Johnny Milavec with an even 600 and 593, did best. Young Men Slump Humiliating the SYMC by shutting out the SDZ five, the Pioneers blasted a neat 2824 to get credited with the second highest total of the day. The Young Men's defeat was due to poor kegling by every one but Udovich who hit a 558. The Young Men had the poorest total of the year falling some 500 pins behind their team average. Knotted at 597, Peters and Eraidic shared individual honors, with Meehan's 589 close behind. As previously stated, the Orels managed to gain one victory over the George Washington 908 to 891. Rev. Audrey came through with a flourishing 609 to topple Lindy Iiot-nik's 580 for the winners. Sokols Socked In the other upset of the day the Clairwood took two from the third-place Sokols in a close match with the victors garnering 2787 pins to their opponents 2749. Tony "Wieners" Mihelcic was the big noise of the clash getting 629, although the din was somewhat lessened by Tommy Jereb's 622 and Frank Stepees 605. Arcadians Get 1055 Going on a spree in the first game, the Arcadians busted into the limelight by collecting a 1055 to trail the Washingtons in the team high single department, but dropped the series to the Betsy Ross crew. A 243. 219 and 201 gave Johnny Pekcl a big 663 and a tie for individual three high. Riddle riddled the maples for an exact 600 to put the Flagmakers in the running. Boosters Take Two By virtue of Krall's 663 the Boosters eked out a> two-game verdict over Cleveland No. 9. He started with a fair 187, followed with a 220 and accelerated to a 256 to gain one-third of fifth place, along with Pe-kol and Wysopal. In order to win the one game, the SDZ squad were forced to 1024 in their last attempt. St. Vitus Sweeps Closing the day's activities. Grdi-na's KSKJ's captured all three from the Utopians. The middle game was decided by two pins the totals being 895 to 893. The luminary of this battle was M. Stepic who slammed out a G08 for the honor. --0- TRAVELERS WIN Finally Shake of Jinx in by Taking All Three From Novak Pinsters Shaking off the losing jinx which has so persistently dogged them during the past three weeks, the Norwood Alleys, local representatives in the Greater Cleveland Traveling League, stepped out and copped all three battles from the Novak pinsters. Charlie Debelak headed the Norwoods' victorious onslaught as they totalled 2933 pins in the three contests. Charlie included a 245 game in his total of 636. Endo was the Novaks' best bet as they tried to stem the tide. Sunday the Norwood collide with the Kinsman Recreations at the letter's drives and should experience little difficulty in downing their opponents, who are now holding down last place. -0- Winning Streak Stopped With a winning streak of 14 consecutive games, the Speh Sports were handed their first defeat by the Ger-char Meats, 14 to 10, in a hard fought battle at the Addison gym. Joe Jenc, lanky Speh center, scintillated for his team by playing a nice floor game besides accounting for five of his team's 10 points. The game was a Community Center C tilt. All the recent intensive training that Eddie Simms, Slovenian heavyweight, has been going through, has not gone for naught, as last Monday he was reinstated by the Cleveland boxing commission after a seven-month suspension. And now he ij primed for action. He was suspended after his debut in the professional circle and has not seen action, except in gym woik-outs, since his brother Frankie put away Gene Stanton in the final bout. Eddie opened the card. His next move was to obtain a new manager and he acquired the well-known Dr. Župnik, ardent pugilistic fan and follower. Now with his new manager and a clean slate, Eddie expects to cut some deep capers in the heavyweight ranks before long. -0- LORAIN SAINTS PUT OUT OF RUNNING IN SSCU TOURNAMENT Continuing their pin blasting, the George Washingtons trounced the Betsy Ross in Sunday's SSCU tourney play. The Tree Choppers piled up an early lead to maintain their clean slate in the tournament. Four of the keglers were bunched for individual honors with "Ox" Kramer's 560 being , high, followed closely by Riddle's 558 and John Arko's and Perdan's 556. At Lorain, p., the out-of-town representatives, the 'St!'" Alloys, were eliminated from further competition by the Collinwood Boosters 2789 to 2529. T. Laurich paced the winners with 605, while Vidrich's 564 proved •best for the losers. Next Sunday's schedule brings together the two favorites, George Washington and Collinwood Boosters, while the Betsy Ross Flagmakers enjoys a bye as a result of the elimination of the Lorain Saints. -O- EAGLES CLUB Last Wednesday afternoon Krokarji swept over the leading Papigaj and won all three of their skirmishes. Jos Pozelnik's, 512 featured the match followed closely by Dr. Sytkowski and Dcmshar's 503. Led by Grdina's 525 the Kukavice copped two of their tilts against the Soves. Frank Jaksic did best for the day, although his high 541 didn't avert defeat for his team. INTER-LODGE, INTER-FRAT SCHEDULES Inter-Lodge By drawing the Clulrwoods in this week's Inter-Lodge schedule, the George Washington quintet • will ne forced to go at full speed if they are to keep pace with their rivals, the Spartans, who meet a less formidable foe in Cleveland No. 9. The defending champs have been upsetting the topnotcliers lately and may prove too big of an obstacle foi the co-holders of the league lead. In meeting the Arcadians the Sokols will encounter a rather inconsistent five, but one that may maice it pretty hot for the third place aggregation, especially if their opponents show signs of letting' up. Schedule: Sckols vs. Arcadians, on l and 2 alleys. Orels vs. Pioneers, on 3 and 4 alleys. Clairwoods vs. George Washingtons, on 5 and 6. St. Vitus vs. Betsy Ross, on 7 and 8 alleys, Comrades vs. Boosters, on 9 and 10 alleys. Inter-Frat The only game on next Wednesday's Inter-Frat pairings which is good enough for comment or excitement is the St. Ann-Spartan tilt, scheduled for 9:15. "Whitey" Doljack. star cent< r of the Blonds, may lose ground in her duel with "Jo" Laurich for individual scoring honors as the Flash forward will have a chance of piling up points as her team stacks up against the last place George Washington Tree Choppers in the curtain raiser at 7. According to previous showings, the Sokols and Silver Masks should cop their games with the Progressives and Comrades, though the Progressives may give the ailing Sokols a food run for their money. Fashes vs. George Washing-tons, 7. Progressives vs. Sokols, 8:30. Comrades vs. Silver Masks. 7:45. St. Ann's vs. Spartans, 9:15. S. Y. M. C. vs. Utopians, on 11 and 12 alleys. MOST VALUABLE LASSIE TITLE "Jo" Laurich, Outstanding Player Last Year, Now Leads Race With % Points; "Whitey" Doljack Close Behind With 78; Over 1,250 Points Cast With the most valuable girls contest rapidly drawing to a close, the' race between the two rivals, "Jo" Laurich, Flush forward, and "Whitey" Doljack, stellar St. Ann center, gets closer and closer, with "dark horses" closing the gap between themselves and the leaders, so that at the writing no less than 22 girls still have an excellent chance of copping the sweater donated by the Blepp-Coomb Co. At the writing Laurich leads Dol-J jack by a mere- 18 points, while h.V sister Pauline is only five points—one first choice—behind the blond center of the Saints. Next in line comes Gorencic, George Washington main • stay, with 62 and "Fran" Malovrh with 61. From here to the three-way tie for 20th place between Bouha of the Tree Choppers, and Kuslilan and Knaus of the Sokols, there is only a difference of 15 points. That is a pretty good indicative of the closeness of the race, where a single first choice vote can! send a contestant up ten places in ' the standing. And three such votes will bring a contestant from 20th into the first five. To date not a single girl participant of the league has sent in a ballot, neither has- any of the coaches, although both groups are entitled to their vote. We urge both these classes to cast their ballot in this last week and a half of the race. All ballots, of course, are being kept strictly confidential. Read the rules below and mark your ballot accordingly. 1.—All votes must be on ballots clipped from the American Home Junior. The Double Eagles twice bumped the Bukovni'.c Studios thereby shaking them out of first place. Jereb showed the way for the Eagles as they dumped 2599 pegs. The Bukovniks totaled 2529. As a result of the three-game setback. they handed the Demshar Builders, the Gornik Habs are the latest occupants of the top rung, once more assuming the position a; the head of the parade which they held during the 1'ore part of the season. Paced by Berk's 640 and Debu-lak's 636 series the Habs clouted ,x .2887 total. Opalek did best for the losers as they hung up a 2710 mark. Alich turned in a neat 637 series as his team, the Grdinas, took two from the Superior Home Supplies pin blasters. However, it was a hard folight tilt, with the series winners getting only one pin more in the grand total than what did their opponents, 2757 to 2756. Udovich's 622 stood out for the Supplymen. The Slapnik's usually heavy artillery was silent as they were twice humbled by the Norwoodians. Dr. Lausche whittled the wood with a nice 225 effort for the Slapniks. The Norwoods' total amounted to 2559 and the Slapniks' 2518. Thirteen minutes elapsed before "Whitey" Doljack registered a good one-handed long shot for the Sc. Ann's first' tally and followed with a duplicate to set the fans into an uproar as the half elided with the teams knotted at four apiece. Again the Sokols took the leaj. this time on Slaper's field goal and it remained so as the final quarter I approached. The defending champs again showed their superior defense by blanking the St. Ami's during this time. Shenks foul that broke the ice did not alter the Sokol's lead as Slaper emulated the feat a few seconds later as did Knaus. With but a minute and a half left Knaus made two fouls, while Doljack was doing the same with her shot to practically sew up the game as Sokols were four points ahead. The Sokols were successful in holding their adversaries in the waning seconds and won 10 to 6. For the winners. Slaper 'was best with four points, while Doljack with five was outstanding for the losers. The Sokols showed that they had the best defensive five in the league when they held the scoring Blonds to six markers. This defeat lowered the St. Ann's into a tie with the scrappy Silver Masks. Another good battle saw the Grdina Flashes spill the dope bucket and hand the strong Spartan team another defeat in the semi-final. Comrades vs. Progressives x Led by Olga Peterlin, the Comrades ever whelmed^ thes Progressives 13 to 8 in the initial, contest. Doubling their opponents 6 to 3 at the end of the first quarter, the Comrades looked better than ever before. Matters were switched somewhat in the next quarter and the Progressives cut the margin to 6 to 5 In holding the Comrades scoreless during the i.ext seven minutes. In the next quarter the SNPJ quintet made two field goals, while their rivals from Euclid way tossed in one. It was in the final quarter that the Comrades pulled way ahead of the Progressives and won quite handily. Luminaries in the brawl were Peterlin, Snider, Sezon and Zelle. Sandwiching a youngsters skirmish which featured the Edna Sports and Shoeshiners between the first and second Inter-Frat contests, certainly met with approval by the fans, "as the Bootblackers eked out a 4 to 2 victory. Silver Masks vs. George Washingtons The Silver Masks had no difficulty in dispersing with the George Washington five to the tune of 23 to 10. At the termination of the first quarter the Silver Masks enjoyed a 7 to 0 lead and at half time raised it to 13 to 5. The contest lost all its zeal in the i third chapter when the Mask five piled up a 19 to 9 advantage. Mae Arthur sparkled for the victors with 10 markers, while on the other side of the fence was long siiot Gorencic with six points and some neat floor work. Flashes vs. Spartans Staging an upset, the Flashes measured the Spartans 13 to 11 in the semi-final. When the Flashes were leading 5 to 1 after the first quarter, everyone was tendered a mild suprise as the Grdina aggregation entered the affair as underdogs, and a bigger one when the first half ended with tiie KSKJ's leading 7 to 2. Slowly but surely the Spartans were coming up and were behind 5 to 5 at the third intermission. Selan's shot with but two minutes to go, placed the crowd frantic as it ! made the count 12 to 11 in the Flashes favor. Just as the final whistle blew. Steis was fouled and made her attempt for the final marker. "Jo" Laurich paced both sides with \ six points, followed by Rode witli five and Yana and Selan four apiece. Sokols vs. St. Ann's The feature tussle wound up with the champion Sokols against the oncoming St. Anns. After much passing, the Sokols i made the first score on Gasparec s ! charity toss and followed with Klo-pec's double-decker to take an eariy jump on their coherts as both teams were tied in the league standings with one loss apiece previous to their meeting last Wednesday.
