Vlada si ne more pomagati, ker primanjkuje delavcev. LONDON, ANGLIJA. — 26. avgusta. RIM, ITALIJA. Japonci so začeli bojkotirati nemške restavrante in svastike so izginile s cest. Mary's Spectator and Commentator CHURCH COUNCIL COMMENTS Better Late Than Never About three weeks late but better late than never, here are some notes about the parish picnic recently held by St. Mary's. The picnic was a big success and it far surpassed the expectations of most of us. The weather was perfect and most everybody put their O. K. cn Pintar's Farm as being the ideal place to hold a picnic. Behind this success stands a most important reason. Cooperation! The great cooperation shewn by parishioners, church societies and organizations proved to be a vital factor in the success cf the picnic. Many thanks go to Marty Rakar and Illirija Choir members who did a splendid job of bartending. They were kept very busy supplying the thirsty with drinks on that very hot d&y. Thanks also go to the always helpful women of the Altar Society, who labored in the kitchen. They worked hard making lunches for a ravenous crowd of picnicers. Due thanks to the members of the Young Ladies Society who were kept busy dishing out ice cream and pop to the sweeter toothed parishioners. Also thanks to the Dramatic Guild members, Young Men's Holy Name, Holy Name Seniors and Juniors. To St. Joseph's Society, No. 169, ICSKJ, go special thanks for their help. The St. Joseph's Band, directed by Louis Opalek, gave a splendid concert which was appreciated by the audience. George Panchur and Frank Matoh of this Society especially worked hard for this picnic. For all this, the priests and church council of St. Mary's are very grateful and can only give you their humble thanks with the promise that such continued cooperation will make a marked improvement at St. Mary's, for the good of all parishioners in general, AN AFTER CELEBRATION As a small repayment to all those who worked so hard at the picnic, the church councilmen are giving a party and are inviting those church club members who worked at the picnic. The party will be held tomorrow evening in the old school hall. There will be enough food, refreshments and dancing for all these workers. If you worked at the picnic, come tomorrow evening to the old school hall and participate in the celebration. in gratitude At our recent picnic we recognized many persons from the other Slovene parishes. It was a fine gesture, indeed, for them; to come and help make our picnic the success it was Many thanks to those who came from St. Vitus, St. Christine, and St. Law rence. We hepe we can help you cut hs much at your various affairs. something for nothing The financial report for 1933 is at last ready for distribution. You will receive it within the next few day.3. Make sure ycu receive one. It cost? you nothing and as a parishioner you have the right to know the financial status cf our church. The report is in the form of a neat little booklet and it states all the reccip'oS and expenditures for 1933. It also gives all the donations and contributions cf the parishioners of the church during that year. Only thcee who have a box of envelopes ln th?ir possession are considered true parishioners and therefore they are the persons whose donations are printed in this booklet. If you do not have a box of envelopes and you did donate, there is no way of recording that donation in our record bocks. Practically three hundred people have moved at one time or another and have not given their new addresses, therefore the old address is printed in this booklet. If you have changed your address please report it at the parish house. Heartfelt thanks to the merchants who, through their paid advertisements helped to pay the cost of printing this booklet. Without their • generous contributions it would have been impossible to publish this report for you. Please patronize them as much as possible. Our envelope system is in the capable hands of Father Celesnik. The donations are totaled and recorded in the record books by a group of councilmen who meet every Monday night in the parish house to record the donation of the previous Sunday's collection. The final checkup, the arrangement of the donations, contributors and their addresses in the report is the work of Father Celesnik. He spent plenty of time and labor to produce this booklet and now that it is finished it is a nice piece of work. Make sure you get one. SLOVENIAN DAY Catholic Slovene Day was celebrated at Spelko's Farm last Sunday. The picnic was a grand success and the profits go to the Franciscan Fathers who are building a new mo:i-astry in Lemont, Illinois. The entire program and picnic was sponsored by the Slovenian Union of Holy Name Societies. This organization welded the Holy Name Societies of the four Slovene Catholic parishes as one unit. They arranged a very good program and the audience was very pppreciative. Father Zakrajsek was guest speaker. He is from Ljubljana, Jugoslavia and the founder of the Slovenian Franciscan monastry at Lemont. While in Cleveland he was the guest of his nephew, Rev. Bom-bach, pastor of St. Christine's Church in Euclid. Other important speakers were Rev. Alexander Urankar of Lemont and the pastors cf the four Slovene parishes. The parish bands and the church choirs were also on the program to entertain the audience. Msgr. Hribar, pastor of St. Mary's, had the audience in a very good humor when he appeared on the speaker's platform with a watch in his hand. He said he wanted to make sure he didn't speak for more than five minutes and the crowd went for that. Ilirija Choir impressed the crowd with their singing ability by presenting three stirring folk songs. All in all it was a very eventful day and the Slovene Union of Holy Name Societies is to be complimented on the fine way it arranged the program and planned the picnic. ST. MARY S WINS AGAIN Last Tuesday, "Dutch" Dackewicz of the St. Mary's Softball team missed the "Hall of Fame" in the CYO league. He pitched a beautiful game against Euclid St. Paul and won by the score of 5 to 1. It was the last inning, two were out and St. Paul didn't get anything that resembled a safe hit. With a no-hit game in sight, the next two men hit safely to score their only run. Nick Chase, Hank Anzlovar, and Matty Podner all featured the batting attack. Podner clouted a mighty home run. St. Mary's has done exceedingly well this year, their first try in the CYO circuit. They won the first half championship and they will play St. Jerome, winner of the second half to decide who is the best team in this division. Come out and watch St. Mary's team play. The schedule is always in the Catholic Universe Bulletin under Senior Softball Northeast Division. They have a good team but they need more rooters and ball fans from our parish to cheer them on. - SODALITY BROADCASTING Sunday, August 27 On this day the Young Ladies' Sodality will have an all day exclusion to Cedar Point. Every day people are injured because some driver believes that he has the right of way and refuses to halt or alter his course. Remember that courtesy and consideration for others are the most important qualifications of a good driver.
