The thesis presents the development and implementation of the new wireless power transfer coil structure. The proposed coil structure is based on the well-known bipolar coil with the directional magnetic flux. The advantage of the new coil structure is higher power density on the same base coil area. Due to the change in the structure, the system for wireless powertransfer also needs to be changed. As a solution, two different converters for driving the proposed coil structure are introduced. Together with the coil structure, the converter transfers higher power density.For the purpose of the control synthesis, a linear, small-signal model of the converter circuit was developed. The current and voltage controller were designed and tested using Matlab.The theory behind the new coil structure was tested using a small-scale, low-power wireless power transfer system. The tests included efficiency and output power comparison. Finally, the integration of the voltage and current control was tested.
