Elderly are a very heterogeneous group regarding health condition, stste of body functions, differences in personality and socioeconomic status. Polypragmasia is common in the elderly and often leads to many side effects and inadequate health treatment results. In such cases the role of pharmacist is very important especially if the elderly are stationed at home or at nursing homes. Pharmacists knowledge of the drug prescribing criteria in the elderly (e.g. Beers criteria) enables to recognise inappropriate therapy which could lead to adverse effects. Such cases should be discussed with a prescribing doctor.
