Notaries in Republic of Slovenia started to operate in 1995. As legal entities of public law on the basis of public authority they create public archival records. These concern various legal and civil procedures, which are a private matter between the parties involved. Notarial archival recordsare therefore specific and sensitive and, at the same time, relatively young. These attributes lead to several dilemmas regarding records management, storage and acquisition of notarial archival records. The purpose of the paper is to resolve some key issues regarding accessibility and use of notarial archival records as well as digitization of their office administration. To acquire the answers, the method of comparison with the practices of notary services in neighbouring countries will be used. The results of the research will contribute to a better understanding of notarial records management.
