New York, 6. aprila. Nosil-|ce tega pisma so sprva lepo sprejeli. In kaj so odgovorili? Uradne brez-i ! pošefriestf v Turčiji ni. To naj si "brezposelni" zapomnijo. Zvezni agenti začnejo či-• stiti New York New York, 6. aprila. Hopewell, New Jersey, 6. apri-1 Ta. V gorah West Virginije so našli zlato Clarksburg, West Virginia, 6. aprila. PIRC, Editors and Publishers Entered as second class matter January 5th, 1909, at the Post Office at Cleveland, Ohio, under the Act of March 3rd, 1878. S to prireditvijo smo imeli precej veliko preizkušnje. KEnmore 1080 At the beginning of the current basketball season, Mr. John Bukovnik, genial backer of the Bukovnik Studios, Class C cage outfit, expressed the hope that his initial backing venture would be a success and that he could display the cup awarded to class winners in his window. Mr. Bukovnik's wish was realized last night at the St. Clair Bathhouse when his team managed to eke out a 28 to 25 win over the Eddie Davis Boxers in one of the fastest and most thrilling contests of the year. This makes it the second title of the year for the Studios, as they had previously annexed the City-wide toga. It was really Frank Bogovich's stellar work that enabled the Photographers to cop the loop tiara. With but a minute to play, Frankie potted a foul shot that gave the Studios a 26 to 25 lead and second later sent a beau--tiful long shot swishing through the cords to put the game on the ice. Eddie Zaletel with 10 points, and Iggy Blazinski with nine markers, led the Bucks in scoring. Sammy Zamec managed and Nick Secolic coached the new champions. Dal vam bom, priporočilo do nekoga v uradu." DOBER PREMOG! < Točna postrežba! The Hill Coal Co. 12fil MARQUETTE RD. Enkrat diabetikar, vedno diabeti-kar. Izjeme so redke, da, jih ni vredno vpoštevati. Diabetikar bo lahko doživel lepo starost le, če bo celo življenje pazljiv glede hrane in če se bo ravnal po zdravniških nasvetih. Kako zdravimo diabetes? DOUBLED MEMBERSHIP IN 1932 On the SDZ, Soap Hojxr JAMES PERAT LEADING IN ELECTION CENTRAL COMMITTEE WITH enthusiam running high, it looks very much, as if the English-conducted lodges of the Slovenian Mutual Benefit Association are headed in the right direction with the formation of a central committee. This committee ( made up of representatives of all the younger groups, will go a long way toward developing a closer spirit of fraternalism between these organization and should serve admirably in adding to the success of each individual lodges' activities. According to the tentative plans, this group will meet monthly for the purpose of discussing the problems of the various lodges and offering possible solutions. Their principal objective, however, will be the launching of an activity program which will bring the Slovenian Mutual Benefit Association before the public. Not only will it be their duty to outline a series of intra-lodge events, but they will likewise" exend the most hearty cooperation to each individual lodge in their social and athletic activities. In this manner, it is hoped that any SDZ English-conducted lodge CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF ENGLISH-CONDUCTED LODGES TO HOLD FIRST OFFICIAL MEETING AT NEW OFFICE SUPREME BOARD GIVES OFFICIAL SANCTION OF ELECTION CHANGE Representatives From Every Lodge in Body Formed to Regulate Social and Athletic Activities of Organizations for Coming Year A central committee, whose function will be the immediate welfare of the English-conducted lodges, was created by unanimous vote at the supreme board and English lodge officers meeting, at the SDZ headquarters, last Thursday evening. The committee will be made® ' up of the representatives from the English-conducted lodges, exclusively, who will meet once a month fo rthe purpose of discussing, suggesting and promoting ways and means by which each individual organization can be strengthened and made more active. Figuratively speaking, the committee will be a sort of clinic where the various lodge ailments will be diagnosed and the necessary remedies prescribed. It will also serve as a bureau of information and it will regulate the individual lodge activities to the extend that no two lodges for example, will be sponsoring socials or athletic events on the same days. On Friday, April 15, this central committee will meet for the first time officially, at the SDZ headquarters, and each lodge is obligated by duty to send a representation. can be assured of the success of an undertaking through the support given the project by fellow members of the other lodges. Dates for affairs will be regulated through this body, so that there will be no conflic-tion of schedules and one organization will not be interfering with the work of the otfier. Tickets for individual lodge activities will be distributed to the other lodges through this -o—.-- ELECTION BET Ever since their inception, the Clairwoods and the Slovenian Young Men have been the committee which will be responsible for their settlement. Operating under such a com-mitte there is no reason why our lodges should not flourish and grew and become the outstanding in the locality. Increased activities mean increased membership. Let's start the ball rolling for bigger and better English-conducted lodges! bitterest friendly enemies. This same feeling of friendly animosity is going to be carried in the Essdeezee Election Campaign. That is if we can take the Kushlan-Surtz bet as any indication. Anthony K u s h 1 a n, Young-Men secretary, has bet Frank Surtz, ardent Clairwoodite, that his lodge will make a better showing in the campaign than the Clairwoods. The stake is a box of cigars. COMETS ARRANGE FOR BIG DANCE Plans for a gigantic anniversary dance were laid at the Comet's meeting last Monday night. This affair promises to outdo all others of this type, and the members of this active Euclid organization have pledged themselves to make this anniversary dance one of the best ever attempted by any organization. zThe date has been tentatively set for Saturday, May 14. The place and further details will appear in a future issue of this paper. Frank Surtz was one of the principal speakers at this meeting, and he promised the members of the Comets 50 prizes for the Bunco party, which will follow the meeting of Monday, May 2, at Strumbly's Hall. The Comets, the youngest of English-conducted lodges, deserve your undivided support. -o- Do you know that no admission or physical examination charges are made by SDZ up to the age of 30 years? Attend meetings regularly. Be an asset to your lodge not a liability. BASEBALL STARS TO GET TOGETHER AGAIN AT YOUNG MEN'S HOP After three weeks of conscientious an ddiligent work, the dance committee of the Slovenian Young Men's Club announces that every detail has been taken care of to make their Pre-Baseball Season dance the biggest and best dance of the year. The affair is to be held Friday evening, April 15, at the Slovenian National Home. The dance promises to be a succuess, not onjy from the number of features, but also from the standpoint of those attending. As has been previously announced, the primary purpose of thsi dance is to as-sembla, once again, all the old time baseball luminaries, as well as the present-day and incoming stars of tomorrow. Eddie Simms' Quarted will furnish the music and that's an enticement in itself. Tickets are selling for only 35 cetns and can be obtained from any of the club members. The Magic City Juniors hearing of his plight, in the distance, came to the rescue and took him to a lodge called Essdeezee, which was situated in the heart of the Clairwoods, and there the revived him with the never failing SDZ Spirit. Due to lack of complete organizations of their forces no further returns were made by any of the other candidates, though political experts assure the SDZ News that the other lodges are out hustling for votes and to prepare election headquarters for a landslide of ballots within the next few weeks. Miss Milner's activity placed her head and shoulders above the other mayorality candidates in the City of Milneria, and. likewise put her brother Ignatius Milner in the lead for the governorship of the State of Modern Crusaders. The balloting gave presidential candidate James Perat, 122 votes; gubernatorial candidate, Ignatius Milner, 500 vates, and Mary Milner 10,000. Let insurance be the secondary means 3f appearance." ---o- A GO-GETTER Who •said that the SDZ membership can not be doubled? During the past month and a half, Miss Mary Milner, a Modern Crusader, has secured 15 new members for the senior By JOE A. ROSA Third Vice President SDZ After reading the annual financial statement of the SDZ, we can be pardoned for feeling a bit proud of our organization. Offhand I would venture to say that there isn't another Slovenian fraternal organization that can compare in financial solidity to the SDZ. With a net surplus of over §800,000 —better than $800 per member—we can well be proud of that good little Slovenian fraternal organization—the SDZ. The present healthy condition of the SDZ is largely due to the able and honest men who have, in the years gone by, been entrusted with its care. Men and women who have worked for the welfare of the SDZ have given unstintedly of their time and executive ability toward the advancement of the SDZ. It is a little ironic that we, the younger generation, shall reap the harvest they have so generously and unselfishly showed. They were the pioneers; men and women who hitched their wagon to a star and have, fortunately, lived to achieve their ideal. In a few years most of these pioneers will pass on. Slowly but surely they must relinquish their posts to younger people. In the years that remain for them they must be content to rest upon their laurels; to relieve the days when life presented a continuous struggle and reverses only way. They have builded future; as in the past, the few will labor and the many will benefit. Will you be numbered among the few or will you be numbered among those who believe that society owes them a debt? First of all be frank with yourself, then write your own ticket. According to unofficial figures the Slovenian population of Cleveland and environs is approximately 45,000. That in itself is interesting. Coupled with the fact that the SDZ numbers only 10,000 members, it is startling. In the past the SDZ has grown slowly but surely. It has grown slowly because it chose to go quietly. There has never been any ballyhoo connected with membership drives, on systematized and concentrated effort to present the merits of the organization to the public. However, it has grown surely because it is a sound institution founded upon sound principles. and junior branches of the SDZ. If Miss Milner is a precursor of what SDZ members can do when they seriously and zealously tackle a task, then even a tripled membership goal would not be an impossibility. spurred them on to greater heights. Because they have accomplished something and because that accomplishment has benefited the world, retrospection will often bring them that pleasant sense of eachievement that comes only from the knowledged of work well done. That is their only reward. The SDZ is our * heritage. Facing a strange and sometimes hostile world, our fathers and mothers pioneered the THE PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE OF AN SDZ MEMBER -By ANTONlA R. KURENT- Please, don't get shocked, but he really is a printer's devil. Someday though he intends to get rid of the devil and become a real honest-to-goodness printer. He was born on Jan. 13, 1912, and like all good bad boys, he used to run down to the old swimming hole, forget to dry his hair and then wonder how his mother knew about his misdemeanors. It is scarcely believable, but he does like spinach, and he has a secondary weakness for Slovenian pastries. He says that he never did anything outstanding in school except paint a huge sign for an athletic exhibit, and juggle type. His cinema tastes are limited to Wallace Beery and the Laurel and Hardy troop, and he utilizes his spare time building model airplanes. Jewelry and nicotine rolls do not meet with his fancy and neither do girls. He has never had a date with 4 a young lady yet, but he once did make one and his feet becoming chilled, he broke it. .Yes, he intends to try again some time, and the' miss will have to be attractive, a culinary expert and a pal. He likes the summer, because cocoa colas taste best then, and he can make frequent trips to his pet farm. Peter B. Kyne is his favorite author and from time to time he boxes. He was an entrant in the 1930 P. D. Golden Glove tournament. A model T Ford which he has been rejuvenating and face lifting all the winter will make its debut next week, and that he believes will be his happiest experience—that is if the tin creature will run. He is exceedingly fond of dancing but he would be fQnder if he did not have to ask feminine partners for the privilege. Once he was an assistant in a meat market and he did not like to have the patrons admire his light brown curly hair, so he sought refuge in the sanctum of the American Home printing department. He plays the fiddle, and if people would encourage him more and perhaps, present him with a set of clubs, he would certainly play golf for the second time. He is the president of the Eastern Stars, No. 51 SDZ, and The present campaign is the first to be conducted in a pretentious manner. A concentrated effort will be made to present the SDZ to the world, and, particularly, to those 45,000. That figure presents a world of possibilities, wih the knowledge that we have some 40,000 prospects in the city of Cleveland alone, it should be an easy matter to attain our goal: Doubled membership in 1932! By VLADIMIR PINTAR Where the Julian Alps crowd together for a last time, once again to rise heavenward before sliding into the hilly Karst; where, in the majesty of the three-peaked Triglav, they reach the great height of 2,864 meters; there, in a deep mountain cleft, lies the Lake of Bled, one of the finest jewels of Jugoslavia and the entire Alpine world. On the lake, the glories of which have been sung so many times by poets, is situated the climatic station and watering place bearing the same name. The Adriatic, which is rather close at hand, supplies a warm breeze to the climate of that country, which, all the same, is distinctly Alpine, modifying the conditions of the temperature in an exceptional manner. Almost in the middle of the lake is a little islet on which, in olden times, when the population was pagan, a sanctuary stood dedicated to the Slav goddess Ziva. Saint Mary's Chapel, which now occupies that place of honor, was erected in the 17th century. Every year great crowds of pious pilgrims frequent that silent house of God. Up in its high tower the "much tried" bell tolls ceaselessly. Legend has it that all those who, in godly meditation, go up as far as the bell rope so as to ring the bell will find their prayers granted. Triglav Is King The massive of rock, standing sheer over the lake, is crowned by the gloomy castle of Bled, where, according to hearsay, the Romans had already camped. The lake is surrounded by gay and verdant hills, but behind them the promontories of the Julian Alps go skyward. The king of the Jugoslav Alps, the legendary Triglav, high up on his lofty throne, contemplates all this varying splendor: sunkissed mountain meadows, overcast forests, delightful villas on the coast, attractive hotels, small churches and chapels, places for pilgrimages, dotted about on crests or squatting on the slopes. For nature lovers and above all for Alpinists, Bled is the center for the most magnificent ascensions and strolls; it is the Eldorado of huntsmen and ar.giers. Bled is an ideal climatic and waterside resort; its hotels cannot be styled gorgeous, but they arc distinguished for the matchless comfort they offer their guests. The Jugoslav sovereigns have selected Bled as the place for their summer residence; in that place gather diplomats, and the best of society from all over the world. (To Be Continued) One of the outstanding affairs of the current season in the neighborhood will be the coming Spring Frolic to be held jointly by the Arcadian and Klever Kids clubs at the Slovenian Workingmen's Home April 23. The entertainment fo^ the affair was. furnished by Pecan, the accordionist, and from time to time Stanley Kromar with a dance solo and Louis Grdina with a vocal solo more than amused the party revellers. Lou is best remembered by neighborhood fans for his exploits on the diamond. During his tenure in the ranks of the ball tossers, he cavorted around first base for the Owls, Schleimers, Abels, Suchan Alleys, Rosenblums, Grdinas and the Tellings in the Ohio-Pennsylvania professional circuit. His batting proclivities brought him a contract from Wheeling in the Middle Atlantic loop, but Lou declined to accept the offer. "Jay" is happily married and resides at 6128 Glass Ave. At present he is assigned to the 11th precinct at E. 105th St. and Euclid Ave., and is one of the mo3t amiable and popular men in the department. RIVALRY HERE The rivalry existing between Harry "Harmonica" Gornick and Attorney Ollie Welf on the golf links has reached fever heat this season. For a long number of years the two men have been playing together. This year they both promised to better all previous scores. Why, "Harmonica" Harry has gone as far as to obtqin a hundred-dollar set of irons. He figures on entering all tournaments this year that will be held in or near Cleveland. Included in the foursome with Ollie and Harry are Frank and William Lausche. AH of the men are capable of hitting in the eighties. G. W. TEAM THIRD TIME JULIA OSIECKI, AGNES STEISS, VERA KUSHLAN, FRANCES SLAPAR COMPLETE ALL-STAR SELECTION There you are, folks! The five girls selected by the American Home Junior sports staff as the outstanding players of the Interfrat loop for the season of 1931-32. Two Sokols, two Silver Masks and one member of the Flashes represent this year's annual all-star selection. Mr. Gus Fan, who is reputed to be very gullible, sometimes rebels, and when he does, it takes something big to recreate the interest which he lost, and regaining his confidence is a big task. At present this circumstance is evident in two local situations, namely the Interfrat League and Eddie Simms, Slovenian heavyweight belter. That is, the fan "proposition." There was a time, some five yearn ago, that Frankie Simms was fast gaining a good reputation in ring circles concerning his potent hitting power. If Frankie made a poor showing in any of his endeavers against clever boxers it was credited to lack of ring experience. But soon the public would not accept that as an alibi and consequently failed to patronize rtghts in which Frankie was featured. Along came Eddie. Everyone said that the younger Simms would get farther in the squared circle than the hardhitting Frankie, because he used a different sjyle of fighting. In the amateurs Eddie went so good that no one cared to mix with him, and it was then that he graduated into the money class. Since then he has had about fourteen fights, losing only one out of this number. INTERLODGE AND INTERFRA TI.OOPS IN DOUBLE BILL Third Game, if Necessary, to He Phyed Next Monday, April 11 Tomorrow night basketball lovers will be given a real treat, for they will be able to see two championship tilts at the St. Clair Bathhouse, one involving the girls' Interfrat title and the other the boys' Interlodge crown. The double feature will headline the Silver Masks and Sokols, while the Loyalites clash with the Pioneers. After the games there will be dancing. The Pioneers and Sokols won their first games and need only to win tomorrow to cop their respective togas, but a loss for either aggregation will necessitate a third game, which will be played on Monday, April 11. If both these clubs lose, they will present another double-header on that date. • Player Breaks Wrist The admission for Friday's tilts will be 10 cents, the proceeds of which will go to pay the hospital bill for Vic Zaletel, Sokol coach and Comrade star, who suffered a broken wrist last Friday in an Interlodge tussle on the St. Clair floor. Gets Support The local fight fans were looking for someone to take Risko's place in their learts, something that Brother Frankie, Gene Stanton, Jack Pallat and other Cleveland heavies failed to do. The stage was all set until about two months ago, when John Parker, West Virginia champ, was brought here for a six-rounder with Eddie. Then it was Frankie Wine, and last week K. O. Christner. In all these three battles Eddie presented a style of fighting that was altogether different from the methods he employed in his first ten professional goes. In the last three bouts he consistently crouched and insisted upon staying in close to his heavier and smarter opponents, with the result that they tied him up and at the same time bested him at in-fighting. In the 18 rounds that he fought those three old-timers all the punishment that he absorbed was while fighting at close quarters. All this clinching on top of poor officiating made all three affairs look drub and tiresome to watch. Comments have been passed about the Equestrium, where all his local fights have been staged, that Eddie is going to lose his drawing power. We agree with these remarks and hope that Eddie does not fall into the same rut that Frankie did. We believe that Eddie's manager is too smart for that and will do something about the present situation before ic is too late Interest Wanes The other situation, in the girls' basketball league, is probably due to the fact that two or three teams are too strong for the other clubs in the loup and th^ customers stay away, knowing that the games won't be close oi that they will be one-sided affairs. Last year every Wednesday night the St. Clair Bathhouse would be packed to capacity, while in the playoff series some of the more rabid fans even climbed the girders to view the tilts. The league race was close, with the Silver Masks, Sokols, Flashes, St. Anns and Spartans all in the running. This year the latter two clubs have dropped out and no one replaced them. The attendance at the gamps has dropped off considerably and even the series between the Silver Masks and the Sokols last week, Wednesday, could not entice as many customers through the turnstiles as they have in previous years. Figure it out if you can, we can't. HOLY NAME JRS. HOLD TOURNEY The Holy Name Juniors of St. Mary's, Collinwood, held a mock doubles tournament at the St. Clair-Eddy alleys last Sunday evening. The contest was a huge success and it is certain to become an annual event. The novel feature of the matches was the pairing of the entrants in which the beginners choose their partners by drawing names of the more skilled keg-lers. The big guns were "Red" Seege and A1 Ferlin, who were crowned doubles hžfndicap champs. "Red" rolled 181, 198 and 148, while his cohort spilled games of 157, 113 and 159 for a grand 956 total. Joe Ferlin had to smash the mapifcs for 220, 173 and 179 to oveicome the 101, l i-1 and 110—325 by his partner, F Sustarc:c, before they were assured of ttvj rumc-r-up position. Joe Tercek's 100, 96 and 111, combined with L. Pike's counts of 129, 00 'and 85, for a total of 581, captured the "booby" prize. SPARTANS AND TREE CHOPPERS WIN FIVE OUT OF SIX TILTS With the league-leading Spartans winning five out of six games and the second-place George Washingtons winning the same number, two games stili separate the only two clubs remaining in the 1931-32 flag scramble. The Spartans were fortunate in their set-tos, going over the 900 m,ar^ only once, and that when they swept over the Sokols, who were rolling with two blinds. In their other series the Collinwood Boosters took from them the first game and dropped the next two, losing the last game by a 13-pin margin. Johnny Milavec sparkled in both tilts, getting 575 -and 558. Charlie Wohlgemuth knotted the latter score. On the other hand, the Tree Choppers were hitting such games as 1067, 986 and 940 against Betsy Ross and the Clairwoods. They captured the opener of the Clairwood tussle by three pins, but experienced no trouble thenceforth. Francis Krainz starred with a 628, including a big 267 tilt. In the other game "Ox" Kramer and Opalek stood out. The former collected a high 646 on single installments of 187, 192 and 267. The last mark tied Krainz for the weekly suit cleaning prize. Skufca and Krall sparkled in the Flagmakers' lineup. Comrades Drop Out The S. Y. M. C. won four contests from the Pioneers and the Sokols. Neither series provided any 900 gatnes and the keglers were wal off form. Frank Yerse and Tony Kushlan twinkled for the victors. The Kay Jays were good for five wins, taking over the Boosters twice and winning three easy games from the Comrades, who have dropped out of the circuit. A 583 by Tony Grdina was high for the winners. In the remaining skirmishes the Pioneers copped all three from the Clairwoods and the Betsy Ross Flagmakers received no opposition from the non-appearing Comrades. CHALLENGE * Although the official date for the opening of the baseball season has not yet arrived, the E. 67th St. Wolves cast the initial challenge of the year. The challenge is intended for the Nick's Billiards, whom they beat on the diamond last season. Both boys are members of Manny Robbins stable. PIONEERS EDGE LOYALITE FIVE TUESDAY NIGHT One of the largest crowds of the year swarmed into the St. Clair Bathhouse to witness the Pioneers get the first "leg" of their Interlodge championship with the Loyalites. The final count stood 26 to 19, with the game much closer than the score signifies. At half time the Pioneers possessed a 22 to 9 margin, which was cut considerably by the inspired Collinwood-ians in the second stanza, who piled up 10 points, while holding the strong Pioneers to but four markers. But their belated rally was cut short by Timekeeper Vidmar's gun and the Loyalites j will have to wait until Friday for revenge. Spretnak sparkled for the winners with 11.points, while Douglas did best for the Loyalites with eight tallies. Joe Kubilus and Ken Fogerty officiated the battle, after which the 650 spectators danced to the syncopating tunes of Red Brancelj and his Rhythm Rioters. As we remarked once before, Mr. and Mrs. John Phan, who patronize the shows and indirectly contribute to a fighter's purse, are the supreme con-noiseurs when it comes to appraising the merits of a fight, or commenting upon a fighter's worth. I fyou take the fans' word for it, the Simms-Christner fiasco at the Equestrium last Friday evening was an abyss-mal failure. The decision at the end of the six rounds rightfully went to Eddie Simms, fighting Slovenian musician. Eddie supplied, or at least tried to supply, what little action there was in the bout. Christner, veteran Akron heavy, antagonized the 3,000 or more onlookers by his holding tactics and unwillingness to mix it up. When Eddie charged in, Christner would lock his (Simms') arms and the two would waltz around like a pair of wrestlers sparring for a hold. In the fifth frame Eddie succeeded in backing away from the Akron rubber man and landing some hard rights to the head that had Christner wobbiing around uncertainly on his pins. Eddie's performance was hampered to some extent by his injured maulies. But Christner, there was no excuse for his showing. For a fellow who has fought Sharkey, Risko, Schaaf and Stribling among others, he displayed very little finesse and craftiness that comes with years of experience. Christ- ner confided to us after the bout that he was satisfied with the decision rendered. He should have been, as his only semblance of an offensive attack consisted of flaunting a left hand and sending a few butts to Eddie's head-Bojack Decisions Latko Eddie Bojack, Slovenian welterweight, punched his way to an unpopular win over Eddie Latko in the semifinal. Bojack was not as aggressive as he usually is, therefore Latko easily copped the first three sessions. The Slovenian suddenly came to life in the fourth and pounded Latko all over the ring to all but kayo tiiui, and only the bell saved him from doing that. However, Eddie cooled off in the fifth and sixth and was content to laying back and' letting Latko do the leading. The final decision (surprised most of the customers, even ourselves, Latko chalked up a large margin of points on "in fighting." Bojack is practically harmless when in the clinches and should develop an attack for that department of the game. Another glaring fault of Eddie's that we noticed *as his defense position. Bojack keeps his hands entirely too low for protection against his opponent's blows. His chin, another vital spot, is kept exposed. If he has ambitions of getting anywhere in the game, he'll have to correct these shortcomings.- By BILLY TOFANT EDDIE SIMMS GETS DECISION OVER KAYO CHRISTNER IN SLOW SIX-ROUND GO BUKOVNIK STUDIOS, DEMSHARŠ IN RACE FOR N0FW00D TITLE Only 12 more games remain to be rolled off in the Norwood Home League before the local kegling season is officially brought to a close. Two outfits, namely, the Demshar Builders, who lead the league, and the Bukovnik Studios, occupants of second place in the standings, are outstanding choices to capture the loop laurels. Paced by Lou Sterle, who whacked 205, 184 and 215 games for a 604, the Bukovnik Studios handed the Gornik Habs a triple licking. "Snag" Tekavec belted exactly 600 to star for the Habs as they dumped over 2710 pegs. The Photographers punched out a 2895 total. Harry Lausche included a 233 in his 595, but the Bukovniks were felled thrice by the Demshar Builders. Opalek crashed a 596 set on 200, 211 and 185 to lead the Demshars to a 2834 aggregate. The losers claimed a 2731. A 608 series by Tony Leskovec featured the Gornik Habs' whitewash win over the Double Eagles. R. Kraemer twinkled for the Popmen, who drew a 2301 total. A total of 2579 pins was knocked over by the winning quint. Showing the Klauscr Dentists the way to a triple win over the Superior Home Supplies, Charlie Lausche, the Dentists' anchorman, blasted a 609 on 195, 213 and 201 counts to enable the Klausers to scatter 2710 maples. Skoda »twinkled for the losers. "Ox" Kramer whacked the wood for a sizzling 659 series tallied on 180, 234 and 245 chapters to lead the Demshar Builders as they twice smacked the Klauser Dentists. Frank "Lefty" Ste-pic sparkled for the Klausers with a 223 effort. A 226 by Celesnik and a 203 by Barth Alich stood out as the Zakrajsek Undertakers administered a double defeat to the Kremzar Furnitures. The Undertakers pounded the pegs for a 2634 total, while the Kremzars were busy chalking up a 2443. -0- BASEBALL TRYOUT Any baseball players desiring tryouts with a fast Class D baseball team see Johnny Spech at 1102 E. 63d St. The two Sokols are Frances Slapar, forward, and Vera Kushlan, guard; the Masks are represented by Mary Doljack, center, and Julia Osiecki, forward. Agnes Steiss, guard, is the lone Fla=" entry. Doljack deserves special attention as this marks the third time she has be«11 given a berth on the All-Interfrat outfit, being the only Interfrat player p"s; sessing that distinction. Julia Osiecl" was chosen on last year's team, but was not in the league the first year. She played with Nick Secolic's aggregatio" last season, while Doljack was with the St. Anns during the two previous cattt' paigns. Veterans; Get Posts There was no choice about the selec" tion of these two stars, as they were easily the league's outstanding players The fans who submitted teams in the contest were well aware of this faCt and almost unanimously placed then' 0!1 the first five. The other three positions were f i lied by veterans. Kushlan and Slaper have been with the Gymnasts since the beginning of the, circuity while Steiss broke into the Grdina-Flash lineup in the last campaign. The two Sokolites undoubtedly ,iati their best year. Kushlan is one of *lie fastest performers in the loop and just , about the best dribbler. Her teammate, by her long range basket bombarding converted many a loss into victory. Steiss, a much improved romped aided the Flashes considerably in fi'1* ishing third in the official final standings. Besides being a great defensjv® player, she was second to "Jo" Laurie" in scoring points for her club. Incidentally, this is the first year that the Flash captain has failed t0 make the All-Interfrat team. GaspareC' Sokol guard, was left off the mythical five for the first time in three years, too. Both these lassies sacrificed 'n' dividual brilliancy for smoother tea"1 play in the past campaign.
